Astronaut Reincarnation?

RS Columbia Memorial nebarnix.jpg

This July, residents of Uttar Pradesh, India, have flocked to visit four-year-old Upasana. Her father, Raj Kumar, says that "Upasana has been telling us ever since she started speaking that her name was Kalpana Chawla and that her father's name was Banarsi Das Chawla but we could not figure out anything as we had never heard of Kalpana." The girl also describes dying in a "crash" in the sky four years ago.

Upasana was born in April of 2003, two months after Indian astronaut Kalpana Chawla was killed in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster. Chawla was born in a remote Indian village similar to Upasana's.

The University of Virginia's Division of Perceptual Studies has extensively studied cases of children remembering past lives. These studies and their scientific conclusions are discussed in depth in Dr. Jim Tucker's book "Life Before Life."

More humans remembering incarnations?

Is it me or does it seem that more and more humans are remembering their incarnations? Although that's probably a nearly impossible thing to research or "prove."

Good question

It's a good question, and I believe Dr. Tucker raises the same point you do in his book -- that it's impossible to prove scientifically. Compounding matters is the apparent trend of children remembering past lives only until around age 7. At that point, the current life seems to "take over" entirely and the memory of the previous life disappears -- and so do the memories of speaking out about it in the present life.

In a totally subjective, unquantifiable way, though, I have to agree with you. Much like Daniel's perspective that synchronicities seem to occur with more regularity (also true from my perspective), incidents of remembered incarnations seem to be on the rise. Even if that sense derives from nothing more than increased publicity, I still take that as a good thing.

orbitals?

I also tend to wonder if we are talking about specific reincarnations of specific souls or just fragments of energetic fallout and displacement--reverbs of psychic energy grooves along or near certain orbitals. Any thoughts on that? Adam Elenbaas

Dr. Tucker again

Dr. Tucker's book convincingly addresses all of the (currently conceived) possible explanations for this kind of phenomenon, and his conclusion is that it's unlikely to be "reverb." For example, his book details cases in which the "new" body is birthmarked in exactly the same place where a fatal wound was created on the "old" body. When this occurs in conjunction with recall of the prior life, it's difficult to atribute to anything but "straight" reincarnation.

Dr. Tucker also relates a fascinating story of two small children arguing about how they fought over who "got into" which mother, including some startling detail about the respective pregnancies which neither child would have been privy to after birth. There's definitely a lot going on here that we do not, by and large, understand or acknowledge.

Beautiful.

There's something really beautiful about this story, about the transcendent nature of a child's mind. I have thoughts on remembering past the veil of birth, but I can't quite pull them together. Maybe because I myself have so much trouble remembering past the wall of the day-to-day.

the world pulled over our eyes

I'm torn on whether we are "meant" to see past that veil. I have the sense that it exists for a reason, but what reason is anybody's guess. Then again, I suppose our evolution to a point where we get peeks behind it from time to time must also occur for a reason.

"meant"

dont tear yourself apart kal! :) if it exists, it'd be very interesting to check it out. for you and me, its undiscovered country. that little girl, lucky her, had no veil -- so apparently parting it here and there is cool. caution is valid, tho. strong and well-organized minds, alchemically refined, are gonna handle foundation-quakes better than panicky obsessive ones.

and a hex on 'why' and 'because'! may they be damned for a dog!
