What Comes After Big Banks?

Let’s make History! The Bank Transfer Day movement encourages the 99% to close their bank accounts on, or before November 5, 2011.  If this action is widespread and coordinated, it will ensure that November 5th will be a day the big banking institutions will always remember.  By removing your funds from the major banks and placing them in a non-profit credit union on or by this date, a strong point will be made: that the consumers themselves have woken up and will no longer support corporations, companies or institutions with unethical practices. This action could suffice as a firm and harrowing message that will finally be read by the 1% who continue to disavow the collapse happening beneath their feet, clinging to their capital and power as the system begins to crack along tired, weak fault lines.

Surprisingly, the Bank Transfer Day movement claims that they were neither inspired by, nor organized by Anonymous or the Occupy Wall Street movement, and that they do not endorse any activities conducted by Anonymous or Occupy Wall Street. However, it is obvious that these movements have many aims and motivations in common, as they rise simultaneously from the debris of corporate America’s greedy maneuverings in order to put an end to a status quo that is not only unsustainable, but lethal. 

Let us all put our money where our mouths are and show the banks we want nothing of it. Research your local credit union options, open an account with the one that best suits your needs, cancel all automatic withdrawals, transfer your funds to the new account, and follow your bank’s standard procedures to close your account once and for all by November 5th, 2011. Maybe with this action, the 1% will finally realize that there is real change both necessary and imminent—changes which are much bigger than any single demand the Occupy movement could claim.
