Adam Clay, Lazarus Mouse and the Kingdom of Eros

Eroticmenlarge.jpg

"The last time he had sex with me, he was so forceful that it hurt me. I was really sore. He is not a visibly violent person, but this manner of sex tells me something about his latent hostility!”

This man is ruled by an archetype. An archetype is created when universal patterns or tendencies mold and define a person. Archetypes are mirrors of the human condition. They are illusions that form a barrier between the ego (conscious I) and the Self (unconscious I). Archetypes may be unlearned, and replaced with self-awareness.

Examples of common archetypes are the clown, the thief, and the virtuous maiden. Let’s call the archetype that correlates to the above-described, male, hypersexual expression “Adam Clay.” Deconstructing the Adam Clay archetype, it is revealed that it becomes the most balanced when exerting maximum force toward a goal it believes it can achieve. Sport is convenient and ideal for this, but sex suffices in that Adam Clay is still “scoring.”

Because of Adam Clay, men express love through forceful sex (as do their partners receiving it). Let’s call the violence of Adam Clay’s sexual force “Aries” and use “Eros” to name the love man expresses in forceful sex.

In sexual and non-sexual spheres alike, Aries and Eros are on a pendulum. When the pendulum swings to Aries, it must return to Eros, and vice versa. If a person acts out of Aries without regard for Eros, law is broken, and death and hardship rule the day. If a person acts from Eros without compensating for Aries, they cannot survive. And so the pendulum swings.

When partners consensually unite in forceful sex, the pendulum is transcended. Eros neutralizes Aries, allowing the couple to bypass the pendulum of Aries and Eros altogether for a time, as they alchemically transform Aries into a massive dose of Eros. Yum.

The greater the expression of Aries, the more erotic sex can be - up to a point, past which Aries either harms physically and/or harms dignity, and/or becomes a black hole of feelinglessness. In this context, Aries contributes to the formation of the dominatrix archetype. In response to numbness, the dominatrix commands feeling. In response to misogyny, she demands respect. She is a personage of female Yang.

The man whom Adam Clay rules has an inner-woman. All men do. She personifies their receptivity, feelings and balance – male Yin. While Adam Clay’s stability relies on forcing the world into balance, the stability of man’s inner-woman lets the world be, which brings it into balance.

Man’s inner-woman is neutral toward things that compel Adam Clay. Adam Clay carries so much blind rage that man’s inner-woman won’t have anything to do with him. To fend off Adam Clay some men compulsively attempt to personify their inner-women through crossdressing, others through forced feminization by a dominant woman, and still others through drink or denial.

As man ages, the power of youth wanes, allowing him more balance, an attribute of his inner-woman. If a man loses power, and Adam Clay still spurns the balance of the man’s inner-woman, a man will become abysmally selfish, sometimes until his life is hardly more than debris to the planet, till he is more archetype than man.

I had this dream which was a lesson about balancing men’s lack of erotic receptivity: There are six men lying supine on tables. None is allowed to move, at all. I am one of six gleeful women wearing lingerie and satin gowns. At the same, we each mount one of the men for a few seconds. Then we simultaneously dismount and move on to the next, and so on to the next and the next, having sex with all the men. Meanwhile the men are meditatively still.

Were a man presented with the opportunity to participate in a waking-life event such as this, Adam Clay would make it difficult for him to approach it respectfully. Were he to try to approach this event respectfully, for the sake of neutralizing Adam Clay, he would find the mix of meditative stillness and erotic pleasure agitating in the extreme. By focus on releasing the agitation, he releases Adam Clay.

The dream offers a hyperbolic antidote to Adam Clay’s Aries. Instead of dominant and aggressive, Adam Clay is required to remain supine and receptive. If the man forces the archetype to remain this way, receiving the vagina with the penis, Adam Clay will dissipate and the man will be transformed, but not instantly. His transformation takes place through willful devotion to changing his relation to Eros as part of a broader, global and cosmic existential shift toward greater awareness.

Nowhere in the Bible is it stated word-for-word that the lion will lie down with lamb. The verse most nearly echoing the prediction is Isaiah 11:6: “The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.” The verse metaphorically (if not literally) describes harmony as it is in the New Kingdom.

The New Kingdom is the post-apocalyptic world. In the New Kingdom, knowledge (conceived in Eden from the Tree of Knowledge) has cleansed the Beast from human reality, hence the lion may lie down with lamb.

“The Beast” is a name for the biological legacy of evolution. Spiritual evolution overcomes the Beast. Without the Beast to contend with, humanity may focus on existence before survival. Without the Beast obscuring existence, humanity’s relation to the world comes to mirror God’s. As such, the type of extraordinary relationships between man and beast - such as those that St. Francis is remembered for - become normative.

As the Beast is subdued with spiritual knowledge, animals take on a metaphorical function, like characters in a story. The metaphorical function of animals has been central to myth since its prehistoric advent. From the earliest times, stories about animals were suggestive of the relation between them and humanity that comes into being in the New Kingdom.

In addition to myth, dreams are also rich with the metaphorical aspect of animals. In the early 90s I dreamed the whole cat family, from the lion to the housecat proceeding side-by-side in a line sweeping from the front to the back of a church. While the lion stands for God, the cat family symbolizes Catholicism – Cat-holicism, or Holy Cat-ism, if you will. As the lion is known as King of Beasts, God is King of the Beast in man. When the Lion lies down with the Lamb, God the Father is reunited with Christ the Son, on Earth.

I have dreamed of Mary as a purple panther and Jesus as “the rare spotted tiger.” The purple shows Mary possessing a post-evolutionary color, a color of beauty and royalty, rather than survival and adaptation. “Rare spotted” refers to how Jesus is rarely directly experienced (“spotted”), and also to how when he is experienced, it is in forms that are difficult to anticipate. That is, as one would not anticipate a tiger to have spots, neither can they anticipate experiencing Jesus.

Where Catholicism is uncompromised by the Beast it becomes associated with the cat and is a vehicle of the New Kingdom. As Christ can be symbolized as a cat, monks and nuns surrender themselves to him as mice so that he can torment the Beast out of them; tormenting them as cats do to mice. This is purgation, alchemical purgation.

After the torment is done, Christ consumes the monk and nun like a cat eats mice. This is a metaphor for Christ integrating the monk and nun into his body. Once they have been thus integrated, they have become saintly. Of them it can then be said, “They are in him as he is in they,” which is equivalent to Christ saying, “I am in the Father as he is in me” (John 10:38). The Lion has lain down with the Lamb.

The snake is another beast with an elaborate metaphorical side. For modern spiritualists the snake is typically associated with Kundalini, which is “serpent power” or concentrated life-force. People practice Kundalini yoga, have Kundalini awakenings, and access Kundalini in Tantric sex without understanding the Kundalini Snake’s relation to Christ Cat.

In biological evolution, the snake is more fundamental than the cat. The snake is inside the cat, as the cat’s central nervous system, its brain and spine. Likewise Kundalini Snake is within Christ Cat, being as central to Christ’s divine love as the snake is to every creature with vertebrae. Where Kundalini is deeply instinctual, Christ consciousness is supremely ethical and self-aware. The two differ greatly, but are one in the New Kingdom, in the mystical body of Christ.

I dreamed: I am straddling a guy while he is in the lotus position. We toss a dead mouse back and forth. As we do this it seems the guy is trying to lift of the ground by accessing Kundalini. I ask him if this is what he is doing, He says yes. But then the real goal of what we are doing is accomplished: The dead mouse begins walking on the guy’s crotch.

The Mouse is Eros. Mice are an apt metaphor for Eros. As the smallest warm-blooded creatures, they convey meekness. Genuine meekness is a channel for immense feeling because it typically must remain concealed, in safety or under repression.

In the dream’s symbol of my partner trying to access Kundalini, the dream shows he is misinformed about Kundalini’s relation to Eros. To manipulate Eros and Kundalini, as he is trying to do, is to misuse them. In essence, Eros and Kundalini are powers to sacrifice oneself to, like a mouse giving itself to a cat, like monks and nuns giving themselves to Christ.

To pretend to be the Mouse to attract the Cat or Snake is folly, just as it is folly to manipulate Kundalini for sex without regard for Christly Eros - as it is unheard of in the biological realm for a mouse to attract a cat or snake.

Dominion in an erotic partnership invokes Aries. The more a partner claims dominion over the other, the less the Mouse can live. To serve Eros purely, as Christ does, the Cat receives the Mouse as the Mouse does the Cat, neither with dominion over the other. The pure essence of erotic partnership is derived from combinations of the mouse & cat: Mouse/Mouse, Cat/Cat, Cat/Mouse, Mouse/Cat.

I recently dreamed: I am holding my partner’s small foot, feeling her feeling. Eros spills across time into eternity. In the dream my hand is the Cat and my partner’s foot is the Mouse. My hand is to a vagina as my partner’s foot is to a penis. Though I play the Cat, I receive the Mouse, feeling her feeling.

Feeling another’s feeling subverts Aries. Forcing another to feel encourages Aries.

Feeling another’s feeling is elemental to any form of compassion. As such, when partners feel each other’s feeling, there is sexual compassion. Sexual compassion nurtures saintly eroticism, vanquishing Aries, nurturing meekness, causing sex to lose its habitualness, making each occasion new, and virginal.

People may endeavor to find their meekness and dignity by suffering their alienation from themselves. In doing so, they cultivate new perspectives, and thereby they change.

In dreams, death symbolizes change. Conversely, in waking-life, change is a kind of mini-death. Change initially strips power, leaving people naked and imbalanced. Later, naked and balanced, they are reborn into a higher reality which sustains the sweet, white fire of erotic purity.

In the New Kingdom, where there is no separation between God and humanity, God is fully present at every erotic event. There, self-indulgent sex, sex addiction, sexual tension, sex crime, smut, prostitution, marriage, shame/shamelessness, affairs, Adam Clay and the dominatrix are impossible. People are too naked and balanced for such things to exist. Cat, Mouse and Snake inform Eros with purity.

The following vision provides a glimpse of sex in the New Kingdom. I had the vision in 2000, a year I spent submerged visions. I was able to date the visions by how marvelous their scenes and how rich their colors. I dated this vision at 2450.

In the vision, two women are making love. Each has a penis and a vagina, but for the lovemaking they aren’t using their vaginas at all, only their penises. By getting in the right position, it would be possible for them to make love with all four sex organs simultaneously.

Woman A’s penis penetrates woman B through B’s penis, fluttering as it pushes B’s penis up inside of B. Then B’s penis pushes out, with both penis heads still touching. Woman B’s penis pushes A’s into A, fluttering and penetrating. Such penile movement becomes possible once Kundalini has married the flesh. Then there is no impotence or erection as we have known them. The penis is reunited with its snake nature. Like Moses’ staff, the penis becomes a snake.

Back and forth the women flutter into each other, crying out in ecstasy and weeping tears of joy. The tears stream, single file, into the eyes of the partner. Woman A is wearing a necklace of thorns that do not cut her.

The scene switches and woman A is standing on a little hill, flanked by two women on separate little hills. They are naked and streams of flowers are arcing through the air. They alternate poses with dance – sort of like voguing.

When they are in a pose, their bodies fill with Eros. They hold the pose for as long as they can bear, and then burst into dance as the Eros runs through them. In a few seconds, their bodies come to rest in another pose. Eros is breathing through them. They cry out in saintly, orgiastic ecstasy.

thoughtful people

I am not seeing what I want to see. Again, as difficult as it may be to imagine, what I see was raped into me when my identity was silenced.

I agree that male bonding is a good thing, but what about when it leads to diffusion of responsibility, to gang rape, when it leads to sensitive or awkward males being ostracized? It’s obviously good and bad.

What you call my “illusion” concerns the transcendence of good and bad. Perhaps how you see their transcendence differs from how I see it. How do you see it?

Thoughtful people will be more appreciative of your opinions if you don’t frame them so invasively, as truth to swallow. If I may speak as a representative of thoughtful people, it makes them not want to listen at all.

No one in this discussion can help but to speak for their gender, from their experience of gender.

neat webpage

Spiritual mastery is impossible without transcendance of good and bad, without the reconciliation of the opposites. Here is a link to a neat webpage that details how to approach reconciliation of the opposites: ttp://www.crcsite.org/Reconciliation.htm

overcoming the Beast

Seeing the parallels between animal and human behavior can go two ways. One is a fatalism that says humanity will never overcome the Beast/ignorance/biological survival. The other is that only with exhaustive knowledge of the Beast can the Beast be overcome with concsciousness.

no story sucks

1. No story sucks. All stories have something to say. I have been known to defend the Jerry Springer Show with the case that people’s barbarity ought to be revealed, for everyone to see and know.

2. In sum, I see the story saying that at the beginning of time there were dark impulses afoot that acted against both Adam and Eve in their innocence. Perhaps I ought to have rewritten it so that the “Authorities” and “demons” were more plainly gender neutral. Would that have made a difference in how you read it?

3. I agree with much of your critique(s) on the unfairness with which men are treated.

4. Problems between men and women are a two-way street. I guess you agree since you offered this: “Men against change are having sex, women against change get stuff and masculine mates.”

5. Perhaps the way to transcend the conundrum is to settle down and make babies with the hope that the tipping point has already tipped, and that they will come of age in a relatively enlightened world. I believe they will. And will learn from our mistakes.

Walking Abortions

What I'm saying is that I think the story is harmful to men (and/or boys,) because origin stories matter, and this origin story says that men are fundamentally disgusting and broken, not unlike Valerie's "Men are walking abortions."  It also says that the origins of women are heavenly and pure and graceful.

In truth, we all have the exact same origin:  Evolution, neither side really having virtue over the other.  (The 2-way street has my full agreement.)

Whether the Authorities are male or female matters, but it isn't nearly so important as that it was they who created men in such a degreaded state.  (And similarly, women created with such delicacy, grace, and spirit.)

I mean:  "What if instead of the Authorities creating men, the Authorities created women?  And what if the description of how women were created was just as visceral and disgusting as what you made for men here?"

What do you think the response here would be?

But it's men, and everyone's okay with butchering the psyche's of men.  "That's okay."

I don't understand why you would tell this kind of story to people, unless you're trying to expose the barbarism of contemporary myths about genders and qualify it as such (the Jerry Springer caveat taken.)

My request is that you, not share or endorse this kind of story.

inflexible women break men and also make them flexible

LK, I admire your insight in and passion for these issues, especially your emphasis that gender, as the mainstream sees it, is illusion. However, the fact is that the illusion is real insofar as it has led men and women to do violent things for eons, and continues to like an echo that has not faded.

My interest in old stories is not in how they can be used to point fingers at today’s man. Rather, they reveal his psychic roots. I want to know what these are for the sake of perspective. I would guess you would answer that an infant boy lacks these roots. I would reply, “But they are all around him, gleaming at him from the eyes of his caretakers, and the boy takes them on as a mirror lets shine an image.”

What you are suggesting borders on censorship.

I see the “Authorities” as archetypes, patterns of behavior that imposed themselves on people long ago. In this sense they did not create man as God did. Rather they formed him as he grew into manhood beginning when he was king of the playground, bullying other kids. Charles Eisenstein’s essay The Testicular Age eloquently expresses the core relation of male and female.

And, McNuggetz, being a man is not about survival. Being an animal is about survival. Being a man, in contrast, is about existence. Similarly, masculinity is far more resilient when it is flexible than when it is rock hard.

Appeal to Reason

There's no censorship here;  Rather, there's an appeal to your reason, your sense of "how things go."

Words and myths have consequences, no?

Is it not a fair play, to request that someone not tell a harmful fiction?

If you in your heart really do believe in this story, then by all means, keep telling it;  But I can't then refer people to you, not for personal reasons, but because what you're saying -- It is clear to me that your message brings great harm and misery to boys and to men.

I know that's not what you intend, but that's what I clearly see.  I mean, I've lived inside your story, and know many other men who've lived it.

irresistible truth

For me the consequences of words and myths are answered by other words and myths, the whole lot of them ultimately melding irresistibly into truth.

I have been studying how things go since I weas little. It's all I have done my whole life, so I guess I won't be getting your endorsement - but it has been a pleasure dialoguing with you.

LionKimbro: "Until women

LionKimbro: "Until women face up to men's lives and their involvement in them, nothing can really change."

I think this one is very true. Nothing can really change unless we understand that we both sexes are of great influence to the other. Women's wellbeing should be in the best interest of men, and men's wellbeing should be the best interest of women. But that's pretty hard to do in the society that teaches us how incompatible we are.

I still don't quite understand, why is the problem with men. Why don't women have some inherent fault, like men supposedly do?!

Actually the biggest issue I have is that I'm simply not like the majority of men. I don't like forceful sex. Mind you, I'm a virgin anyway so I might also have some deluded ideals, but this thing with forcefulness has been with me the whole life. I learned to masturbate very early in life, and learned pretty much immediately that I had to do it in a forceful way, even though I didn't feel like it. I always had the feeling that soft and gentle things are wrong for me.

These days, there's that guilt thing too - that me(n) has been bad to women(but also earth - earth is female, surprise) - and thus there's no reason whatsoever for goodness to come to me. And even if it become acceptable for me to receive - and BE, as I don't think one can really receive gentleness if one is not gentle - there's still that question, that why was it me who started the abuse. Very sorry for the rambling!

Priapus

Thank you for your candor, Flower.

Maybe some of my story will also shed light: I can really relate to your fear of suppression, particularly against sexuality. When I identified as male, suppression of my sexuality harmed me. It made me covet sex, get with girls or have girlfriends mainly so I could have regular sex. At the same time, I loved women earnestly, and passionately. I rejoiced in women, but despite myself I devolved into a numb, manic clown with a raging hard-on, unable to socially relate to the external world. Then my journey to womanhood unwittingly began.

In 1998, I had a dream of a group of men with raging hard-ons that wouldn’t go down, like Priapism. The men were sort of forced to stand naked in front of some angels until the condition went away, till they were flaccid. Their teeth were sticking way out in expression of angst. Maybe this was a reference to the “the gnashing of teeth,” from the Biblical verse about “there shall be weeping and the gnashing of teeth at the end times.” That’s a lot what waking-life was like for me then. I didn’t masturbate for a year and a half.

"To this day the immortals respond to the human race with fear"

Hi LionKimbro,

1) A few weeks ago, Amy asked my opinion on whether the “archons” and the “authorities” should be interpreted as demons in the context of the Gnostic myth “On the Origin of the World.” I did not answer her question directly, but instead put together a very brief overview of Gnosticism, which you will find in section 2 of my post. I will answer more directly now, however, since there seems to be a bit of confusion as to what Gnosticism was all about.

First, this one section from a single Gnostic text does should not in any way be approached as dogma. 1st-4th century Gnosticism was vast and contradictory. The one constant was the emphasis on “gnosis”- direct knowledge- rather than upon any structure of belief.

My sense is that the “archons” or “rulers” were the equivalent of gods rather than demons. In the latter days of the Roman Empire, a kind of reversal of all values had taken place; the gods, rather than being perceived as man’s helpers, were instead viewed with paranoid suspicion. They were a parallel race, our competitors in the framework of creation, and were jealous of the preexistent breadth of human consciousness. This competitive orientation led them to dictate stories about themselves in which they are presented in the roles of our vastly more powerful parents, whereas their true agenda was to preserve the hypnotic status quo, and to keep us in a state of enforced childlike naiveté. Hence, the Gnostic concept of “freedom from the authorities” had to do with humans taking back their birthright.

All of this should be read in historical context. It was a very strange and apocalyptic period. I personally do not view this “gods” in this light at all, and am interested in celebrating every level of creation. As I mentioned in my recent RS essay “Art and Ashe in the Yoruba Traditon”, my wife is a priestess of Lukumi. The “Orishas”, the gods of this tradition, would no doubt have been seen by many Gnostic thinkers as the equivalent of the “archons.” My home life would be very unpleasant indeed if I shared this point of view. It is certainly possible, however, to believe different things at different times, to engage in a “provisional suspension of disbelief” as we come to terms with each tradition.

Here are 2 interesting excerpts from “Asclepius”, another anonymous Gnostic text from this period, which touches on this competitive relationship between humans and the gods:

“And it happened this way because of the will of “God” that men be better than the gods, since indeed the gods are immortal, but men alone are both mortal and immortal.”

“Since we have entered the matter of the communion between gods and men, know, Asclepius, that in which man can be strong! For just as the Father, the lord of the universe, creates gods, in this way man too, this mortal, earthly, living creature, the one who is not like “God”, also himself creates gods... Asclepius, are you not amazed? Or are you yourself as ignorant as the many?”

2) An important thing to remember about Gnosticism is that the Nag Hammadi manuscripts were discovered in a cave in 1945, where they had been hidden for the previous 1600 years, so we can only guess at the interpretation of key symbols. Before this, the majority of surviving fragments had been known through quotations by enemies, the church fathers, who were intent on demonizing the Gnostics and enforcing a uniformity of belief. One of their major criticisms of Gnostic thought was that the major Gnostic teachers did not appear to agree with each other, were not preoccupied with consistency, and seemed every other week to be inventing some new cosmology. Gnostics did indeed take a creative approach to past mythologies, appropriating, challenging, subverting and often reversing the terms of both pagan and Christian belief systems.

This was during the expansive and decadent phases of the Roman Empire, when the emperor was regarded as a god, and the Pax Romana had co-opted the existing systems, emptying them out from within. There was a tremendous feeling of alienation from official power structures, and a sense of escalating apocalyptic energy. The somewhat paranoid tonality of the Gnostic mythological synthesis was probably an exact reflection of this one historical moment.

So far as we can tell, Gnosticism was “a-cosmic”; it took the traditional concept of cosmic harmony and turned it on its head. The 7 Archons, or Rulers, could be seen as the 7 planets and their associated gods, among other things, but these were seen as active impediments to knowledge rather than gateways to the beyond. The cosmos was conceived of as a kind of onion, with the Earth at the center, and many rings of hypnotic force stretching to the edge of created space. Beyond this was a zone of free and indeterminate consciousness, existing outside of time, which contained within itself all of the knowledge from past Aeons. This zone of consciousness is similar to the Buddhist concept of the clear light of the void. The Gnostic concept of “a-cosmicism” is also similar to the Buddha’s concept of “an-atman”, or “not-self”, in which he repudiates and reverses the traditional Hindu concept of “atman”, or “higher self”, as being an obstruction rather than a means to expanded consciousness.

One part of Gnosticism was a diagnosis: We have forgotten where we came from. We have lost touch with the breadth of consciousness that existed at the beginning, in the fullness of the Pleuroma, and have become trapped in the cycles of manifestation. The other part was the prescription: By direct knowledge, we must remember where we came from, who we are, and what we were meant to do.

3) Although, as I have mentioned, I do not share this negative attitude towards the “gods”, I have sometimes played with aspects of Gnostic mythology in my writing. A few months ago, I posted an essay on RS called “Maps of the Metaphysical Double; In the Footprints of de Chirico”, which was the introduction to my book on the proto-Surrealist painter and writer Giorgio de Chirico. Here is a piece from later in that book, written in the persona of de Chirico:

                                        13

Symbols were not supposed to have been difficult. Objects were as interrelated as the branches of a tree. To dream was not to be other than conscious. Space was transparent. Stories were as continuous as the Platonic Year was long.

Nothing was hidden in plain view by the 8. Duplicates destroy their work. They smash the statues, after copying and marketing every detail, as before.

It took years for the light of Sirius to hit me. As I watch it radiates- long ago. Who in the future present sees me looking back? I am not sure but it dares to regard me as its shadow.

Out of brontosaurus bones the ancient birds built stadiums. The early race was ambivalent towards friends. Blood would justify their paranoia. The gods would soon prove treacherous. Species would forget from whose body they had come.

The gods play. Their thoughts act. They spread the myth that their human predecessors had been created as their subjects. Humans were the gods courageous enough to jump headfirst into death. Their superabundance created the immortals. To this day the immortals respond to the human race with fear.

Complex circles are projected onto history. We explore on foot their geometric shadows. 26,000 years is too great a length of time for the voyager to be haunted by nostalgia.

No memory lapse was to be incurred as the soul put on and took off incarnations. Early man could live for several thousand years- although not necessarily in one body or as himself. It was planned that vatic speech would exit from each baby's mouth. To breathe was to create. To loose one's head was to perpetuate the prehistoric lineage.

Severity now stalks the station where once the 8 were exported to Ionia. The blind seer dreams that he doesn’t wake up.

It is possible, however, that our ignorance is a hoax, a strategy that the double has instituted for our safety. Our enemies would destroy us. Quickly, for our supernatural weapons are in storage. The years have rusted our battle skills. We have lost the subtle art of bi-location. Should our memories return our egos would be transformed into spheres.

At the factory of prosthetic limbs there would not be any workers. Row upon row, the fluorescent lights would fail. The silence would be louder than any noise. In mid-turn, every crankshaft would be frozen.

My mind, as though not moving, stops. It came from nowhere- enough energy to resurrect the dead.

Thank you.

Brian, I appreciate the time you put into this explanation;  I'm afraid it goes a little too deep for me to understand though.

increasing the existential spectrum

Thank you for your insight and kind words, monkeyblood. Managing the response to the piece has been emotionally draining. A dream showed it like this: I stay up too late and get cranky. I apologize to someone for being too tired to be respectful. We lie together non-sexually.

In my responses I was duly respectful, but I could have been more so, and apologize for being less than. I want to be perfectly respectful at all times. It’s hard to do when you are not feeling respected or understood – and feeling that no matter how much you explain your POV, you are still not going to be understood because you are simply not calibrated to where others are at and vice versa.

That said, I would like to give it another try: All habitual and harmful attitudes and behaviors can be metaphorically transmuted into an inflexible erection numbly and uncaringly pounding a hole. Morbid female consumerism is an erection pounding a hole. Female encouragement of harmful male attitudes and behaviors is an erection pounding a hole. (Or if it is a form of Vagina Dentata then the erection has transmogrified into the vagina’s teeth closing on the penis, unfeeling and uncaring, complementing Adam Clay.)

Women could have as easily been the ones lying supine and receptive in the dream from the essay. Let’s add a penis to them for the sake of clarity: There are six women with penises lying supine on tables. None is allowed to move, at all. I am one of six gleeful women wearing lingerie and satin gowns. At the same, we each mount one of the men for a few seconds. Then we simultaneously dismount and move on to the next, and so on to the next and the next, having sex with all the women. Meanwhile the women are meditatively still.

The dream is about balance. Its message of receiving rather than taking is non-gendered. For shopping addicts, for example, the message of the dream would pertain to learning to find value in things themselves, independently of their purchase.

Just because the men in the dream are supine and receptive does not mean they are not erect or without powerful feeling. Being okay with being supine and receptive in this context is meant to strengthen, not weaken. It’s telling man, “You don’t have to do anything. You don’t have to outdo other males. What you want is yours, so let yourself have it.” For me, it is an expression of intensely personal compassion and caring, deeper than what norms allow a man to ordinarily experience. It increases the spectrum of existence.

transcending history

For my previous RS article, "The Buddhas of New Zealand," the ladies let me have it. Maybe next time it'll be the kids, then the animals, then the,,,

"Pain and anger of milennia..." Transcending history is a central concern for me. Perhaps it needs to be more widely addressed (in the collective) before gender war can turn toward peace.

hugs & punches

Thank you. I appreciate your empathy. I had no idea what I was getting into by exposing myself to public review. It’s like getting hugs from behind while being punched in the stomach. It’s invaluable in that I am learning a lot along with everyone who participates. So thank you to huggers and stomach-punchers alike.

If I were Pope, blame would be a new deadly sin. There is fine line between blame and observation. Whether or not blame is observation can be all in intent and/or tone. I swear as Creation as my witness that throughout my life I have made neutral observations that were taken as blame or negative criticism, resulting in the other person getting inconsolably angry at me. I have been guilty of the same thing.

I don’t blame Adam Clay for being what he is. It’s his biological legacy. He is the Beast. Every man and woman is burdened with the Beast. Perhaps man’s loss of himself to sex is roughly analogous to woman’s loss of herself to childbearing. Each gives its own meaning and power, but with a degree of expense. I would never say that getting laid and having a baby aren’t fulfilling in their own way, but by being end-all be-alls they reinforce what Brian George has called “the hypnotic effect of time and space.” This is not for a moment intended to devalue parental love for children or a man’s passion for his woman. These hold the hypnotic effect at bay, but they cannot permanently transcend it. My aims concern its permanent transcendence, personally, collectively, globally. As such my aims are sometimes both a hug from behind and a punch in the stomach.

Self and shadow collaborate on a nuclear reactor

Hi Amy,

1) Congratulations on all of the excitement you stirred up with “Adam Clay, Lazarus Mouse and the Kingdom of Eros.” You kept a cool head under, at times, enormous provocation, and acted with a high degree of diplomatic grace. Although you may have felt some momentary aggravation with a few of the comments, when you actually sat down to write, however, I think that your respect for people was consistently apparent.

2) Over the weekend I was reading Aeolus Kephas’ terrific book, “The Lucid View”, and towards the end of it I came across several quotations that touch on our earlier discussion of Gnosticism.

The first quote is from William Blake, who is the visible representative of a Gnostic linage that had for centuries worked underground. The statement is from “The Marriage of Heaven and Hell”, and in it Blake echoes and articulates the Gnostic idea of radical freedom from the “authorities”:

“And at length they pronounced that the Gods had ordered such things. Thus men forget that All deities reside in the human breast.”

The second quote is from the Gnostic “Gospel of Thomas." It is somewhat different in tone from the statements we have looked at before, and touches on the ultimate goal of the integration of all energies, male and female, physical, psychic, mental and spiritual, into the form of one resurrected body. Self and shadow have been scheduled to collaborate on the creation of a nuclear reactor, whose door would open onto other worlds.

Tertullian said: “I believe in the resurrection because it is impossible.”

The resurrected body was, in this tradition, not at all unique to Jesus, but rather represented the primordial form of the human body as this was reconstructed, historically, through the trials of the Eschaton, and, personally, through the fires of an awakened Kundalini. Such a body was as ferocious as a lion, as paradoxical as the living stone of the philosophers, and overflowed with supernatural force. It was not in any way a “pacified” body, and would not fit comfortably into anyone’s version of suburbia.

“Jesus said to them, 'When you make the two one, and when you make the inside like the outside and the outside like the inside, and the above like the below, and when you make the male and the female one and the same, so that the male not be male nor the female female; and when you fashion eyes in the place of an eye, and a hand in place of a hand, and a foot in place of a foot, and a likeness in place of a likeness; then you will enter the kingdom.'”

farewell to arms

Thank you, Brian! The quotes you chose are essential. They give context to my perspectives particularly where they concern Christianity.

As soon as the word “Christ” is heard many otherwise thoughtful people are reflexively repelled. This happens because they are keeping at bay the Authorities – the Authorities which so readily pollute power, and whom have no place in Christ.

When I write about Christ I am referring to the one which your quotes and observations elucidate, the one who personfies "the primordial form of the human body," as well as mind and heart I would add.

Let me echo that there is nothing suburban or pacified about the New Kingdom. It is an erotic (not necessarily sexual), superhuman fairy tale that shreds the Authorities (that have puppeteered LK, McNuggetz, et al, me sometimes) who protest the Authorities.

About the fashioning of new body parts Jesus speaks of, I have had dreams of barrels full of severed arms – my own arms – showing that the consciousness that informed the use of those arms would be cut off. This meant the severing of the archetypally male consciousness and muscle memory I took on when I was a kid learning how to hit, throw, rebound, tackle, work and fuck. To fashion a new body part is to use one’s body in a new way due to one’s evolved perspective and awareness. It is not a product of imitation. When I was a kid, imitation fashioned my body parts for sport, work and fighting. They have been refashioned by consciousness to be vessels of dance, grace, eros and Christ, and they will be refashioned over and over, and the barrel of severed arms is piled ever higher.

transcending memes

When I was four I asked my dad, "Do prostitutes work for the government?"

"Sex worker." It humanizes and is respectful.

A main point of “Adam Clay, Lazarus Mouse and the Kingdom of Eros,” is that it is not men who need to dominate, but the archetype that puppeteers them. This archetype is not a man. It’s an “Authority,” a behavior pattern, a gestalt of memes to be transcended.

Adam Clay is never distinguished in the piece as “he.” Adam Clay receives the gender neutral “it.”

A penniless, homeless naked man playing a saxophone on a rooftop does not need to dominate. He owns the world. He is man. Those who need to dominate are less than men insofar as they are ruled by archetypal energy.

It is crucial to distinguish what a person is from the archetype they are identified with. It needs to be done because it demystifies the illusion archetypes perpetuate, making it possible to react more neutrally to them, and eventually to neutralize them altogether.

McNuggetz, it seems you are more invested in perpetuating memes than overcoming them. Is this not so?

Also, at worst people only see what they are given too see, as pawns to culture. At best, they see with the eyes of the soul. With the eyes of the soul they see and feel wisdom, beauty, poetry, suffering, music, art. It is morbidly cynical to reduce sight to seeing what one wants to see.

It is true that people don’t see what they don’t want to see. I have already seen what you want me to see.  You are mistaken to think I have not seen and integrated the “truths” you would have me see and integrate.

World of Scarcity

At the end of the day, men live in a world of scarcity, in a way that women have not appreciated.  (They may know it, but they haven't put it together with, "Oh, and this has implications for my behavior.")

Talking about archetypes and theories and so on distracts from the reality of:  "What works?"

Men construct armor because it works.

"The Authorities" in this case are actually women, because women bestow the rewards to men.

When you are seeing Adam Clay, you are seeing the product of female rewarding & desiring.  When you see a man, deformed beyond nature and humanity, you are seeing the product of female rewarding & desiring.

Men "wise up" very quickly to female preference.  This is because men have sexual needs.  When men talk about "evolution," (not in context of religion vs. fact,) when men talk about "mate preference" and so on, you must understand:  This is the only language they can talk about their sexual needs in.

No man will talk about sexual need (as such,) because while women are repulsed by needs of any sort in a man, they are especially repulsed by any speech about sexual needs.

Nobody else is going to speak this to you, not even Warren Farrel, but there it is, as bald as I can bring myself to put it.

Can the world be different? Perhaps, but it would be a very different world.

The Question

The question is:  "How can men & women find fulfilling romantic & sexual lives in the 21st century?"

We're in a crisis state right now;  About half of marriages end in divorce these days, and increasing numbers are simply not even trying.  Population count amongst non-religious is in tailspin.  Sex & romance are dead.

Traditionalists are proposing an answer:  Chivalry, Country, and a Subservient (or pedal-placed...) Wife.  What this means if you're a boy is that you get to study how to bash sensitive men, take their wives, hold zero compassion, expense no thought to others, shoot the enemies your country tells you to shoot, and you will get laid by your subservient wife, held subservient by a cadre of other traditional men.  What this means if you're a girl is that you get to study how to be subservient, clean homes to immaculate standards, not vote, and stay out of harm's way.  It's called Patriarchy.  And granted, it has some sick and fucked up appeal.  Sometimes it's nice for a fantasy & role-play, but I definitely wouldn't want to live it in for real.

What are non-traditionalists proposing?  Nothing.

I count my Gen-X friends and I see the only ones happy in marriage are the ones without children.  Everyone else claims to be happy, if you probe them, but they're lying, and it comes out loud and clear when you talk with them.

If you want to live in the world of always trying to look like the big man and the top dog so that you can get just a little bit of what you need, you can take the traditionalist's approach, and return to patriarchy.  Let women entertain their soft fantasies of equality and so on;  You're going to take The Man approach.  (Alternatively, you can become a Rebel Leader.  But you have to be a leader of some sort.)  The Patriarchy does, after all, have a long tradition, stretching the length of civilization.  Be prepared to play hardball -- she makes more than she did in the 50's, and can be hard to impress;  You'll have to go a lot further than just making her feel special!

Here's my proposal:

Compassion.  Make it into public fact that men need sex.  Extend compassion to a world it's never been to before:  the world of MEN.  Establish the concept of sexual charity.  Encourage women to love & have sex with the men in their lives.  Extend compassion to boys & homeless men & elderly men, male virgins, and so on.  Legalize prostition;  Call it "sex work," as Amy suggested.

Intelligence.  Make it clear in reports of deaths how many men die, and name them as men;  Don't say "X people died," when they're all men dying.  And when it's all men dying, don't say "women and children are the real losers."  The guys died.  Dead.  Dead dead dead-- that's really losing.  It's beyond losing.

Fairness.  Let women pay child support to men, if the man wants to take care of the kid(s).  Report crimes against men, not just against women.

There are myriad things we can do to change the dynamic.

If you do this, men will be free to live as the kinder, gentler creatures that we are.

Men have already been exposed to the sickness and harm that traditional ways inflict upon women;  But women have not been exposed to the sickness and harm that traditional ways inflict upon men.

I'm confident that we'll still have romance, because we're all romantic beings.  I'm confident that we'll still have children, once the pressure game is over, the deck so clearly and heavily stacked in the woman's favor.  (I mean, what man wants to have children, when she'll yank them from you, with the courts full approval, and then heavy payments on top of that, going to your ex, should she decide to do so?  Talk about screwing with the equations!)

The Feminists were right that we need to get rid of the Patriarchy.  And the Feminists were right that the Patriarchy hurts men as well as women.  What they missed was the critical piece:  Men's hearts.  Men's hearts come through sexuality, and that can't be changed at all, by any amount of wishing.

"Free Love" won't cut it.  In "free love," "sexual revolution," what happens is that far more women have sex, but only a few more men are having sex as well.  Basically, women are given license to fuck the few men that they find attractive.

No, what we need is compassion and earnest seeing of others.

This, as far as I can tell, is something of the nature of the alternative.

When you hear people talking about "Compassion," look for "compassion for men."  And when you find that it's not mentioned, speak to it, even though we all know why people are going to boo you down.

And I guarantee you:  The subject of sex is going to come up.  Likely not initially, ... but eventually.  It will come up.  It has to come up;  Because the male psyche is entirely reshaped and distorted around the scarcity of sex.

Fruits

1) LK, kudos to your proposal! I’m in. It outlines a cultural environment in which Adam Clay could not survive. People may say that in practice it cannot work. I would respond that it is valuable and meaningful to have on its own right.

And also I would tell them that how the Internet is going to change the fate of global consciousness has not had its surface scratched. People coming of age in this interconnected landscape have such access to the spectrum of consciousness that, one way or another, the old world is doomed, and so it needs proposals such as yours.

2) I hope you will accept that I am on your side and that I am not perpetuating what you fear I am. To understand my “proposal,” one has to have a firm sense of how metaphor, archetype, dream and myth fit reality – and you don’t seem to.

Metaphor, archetype, dream and myth are all I have tethering me to existence. They are the core of my reality. They are signposts to the soul, immaterial DNA. From them come my value and meaning.

Where you “go through,” I go inward so that I may reemerge in all directions at once.

You “go through” like the penis in intercourse. I on the other hand am not the vagina you are giving it to. Instead, I am the sperm and I am the egg, too. So, you see? Can you accept that you and I are an apple and an orange?

Way Out = Through (meaning)

I know that you're on "my side," and I appreciate that.

At the same time, I do not understand how you cannot see how it is harmful to men to portray their origins as abortions from the Authority, and the origins of women as purity, faith, hope, and love.  It boggles my mind; I just can't wrap my head around it.  Would it help if I went through the story line by line, explaining, "Here's how this line harms men.." ..?

Re: "the way out is through," ...  What was I talking about?

OK:  McNuggetz said that "Sex is violence," and that we can't reach enlightenment until we stop having sex.  (Which he says: isn't reality.) He continued in a second post.  I don't know how he explains Bonobo society, but there it is.

When I said that "the way out is through," here is what I saw in my mind:

I saw the timeline of evolution.  I saw that somewhere between 200-300-something million years ago, animal organisms started having sex.

I saw that people had a hard time with sex & gender and so on, and that there was tons of violence around tribes killing each other and so on, and men killing other men and then killing their children and then taking the wives who became the ready parents of their new children in their new worlds.  It's sick, its disgusting, and time over and over again in the past, it's been reality.  Humanity has kept it at bay (we think,) but it's there in the back of our minds, in our fantasies, and it's there in the porn stories.

Which is to say:  I can thoroughly understand how someone can reject sex, just outright, through and through.

When we (or I, at least,) say "the way out is through," the depiction is that there's a choice.  There's a black hole, that we're on the edge of the event horizon (or already within it,) and that it's pulling everything into destruction.  You can either try and somehow defy physics and gravity, and get away, or -- you can set your sites for the middle of the black hole, and see where it leads.

So by this picture, "the way out," suggested, is to stop having sex, to make chastity the social "enlightened" practice, or to genetically re-engineer the human being so as to not need sex, or perhaps to give robotic sex partners to everyone, or whatever.

But the way through is to take sex head on.  To say, "This thing of darkness, I acknowledge as my own," and to look deeply into what it is, and so on.  Other metaphors are to delve, to dig, as well as to accept.  And here we get into the intelligence story.

I don't think sex is going to go away.  I don't think if I had a button that could completely remove all sexual impulses from me -- I don't think that I'd press it.  If I had a button that could completely remove all sexual impulses from all humans on Earth (and somehow keep the population going,) I don't think I'd press that either.  Which is to say that I think that sex and gender adds more than it takes away, from the human experience;  This is a basic faith of mine.

I generally reject personal gender integration stories, for the reasons that Sam Keen gave in "Get Over It."

This doesn't mean that I reject you, or that I reject metaphor, archetype, dream, and myth, the core of your reality.  But those things can be oppressive, rather than liberating, and it's important to see symbols as symbols, rather than as commands from the cosmos;  I firmly believe.

Heartbroken

I'm heartbroken.

By far, you've been the most supportive, friendly, counseling, and receptive reader.  I'm devastated.

At the same time, -- I have to ask:  "What do you expect?"

I mean -- maybe it seems like a theory that I have about the world, to you.  That, in theory, perhaps men live in this reality I am describing.

No;  This is daily reality.  Day in, day out.  Every day.  For decades.

Am I, (and are men,) supposed to pass a white glove treatment of transcendent blamelessness, in order to get their pain across?

I never said that women were sly, egotistical, controlling, manipulative.  (Some are, but not most.)  I said that men (...a generalization...) are working to fit the framework of what women (...a generalization...) find acceptable/desirable, that this is why men (...such as and including McNuggetz; and yet another generalization...) behave the way they do, and that women (...another generalization?  yes...) are complicit in this.  There is deep truth to this, even though generalizations are off in some cases.

Generalizations are inevitable because pulling punches all the time makes writing weak and ineffective.  Further, readers are inclined to say, "Well, I'm not one of those people," rather than thinking about their part (and, yes, complicity,) in the story.  I can try to soften points, (without making water,) but I need help to know when and how and where;  It is very hard (impossibly hard) to do this work without making mistakes in expression.

All in all, I believe I've been fair.

Thank you.

There's an irony here;  I'm arguing that culture should let men be more sensitive, and then arguing that women should be able to take criticism and have thicker skin.

I could try and be poetic, and say, "We're looking for a center-point, a mean," but the simple truth is, it's actually confusing to me.

One unambiguous (and ungendered) rule I'll follow, is:  "Don't piss off your friends."

spider woman

All we have is language to communicate. Since we can’t communicate new ideas with the old language we invent a new one with new words.

You might not know that the spider is a symbol of the primeval feminine. She is weaving her web through the world wide one.

Once entangled in this Web the spider poisons the life and the consciousness of its victim and then devours it, transferring all life forces and consciousness into the spider's agenda.

Anyone can make the first move.

We can equally argue that if the men of the world want women to change, that men need to set the example and unlearn the oppressive archetypes associated with the male sex first.

That said, I think the history of the last 20-50 years is a history of men changing (at least in our society) for women.

By my theories of societies (which may well be totally wrong, bogus,) it would imply to me that women need to take a turn, now.  The principle of reciprocity write large suggests to me that women will be responsive.

I don't really know what that change will mean, and just have some dreams, visions, imaginations, and fantasies about it.  But I think there really will be a change.

disassociation from oppressive archetypes

I wouldd like my male self to be regarded as someone who did just that, who, "set the example and unlearn[ed] the oppressive archetypes associated with the male sex."

Not sure what to make of you using the term "archetype" LK.

Mirroring Use

I'm mirroring McNuggetz use of the term, but I think he means behavior patterns, and that's what I meant as well.

Giving Regards.

Incidentally, I will (and do) regard you as someone who unleared the oppressive archetypes (whatever it means) associated with the male sex.

Actually;  How to regard you (as a transsexual) is unexplored social territory, in that how you (and transexuals in general) want to be regarded, is largely unknown to us, the general public.  ("She?  He?  Co?  What do I say?  How about when talking about who one was?", being some of the questions introduced.)

I appreciate queery theory a lot;  Lots of intriguing ideas and explorations come from those conversations.  But it does leave many of us somewhat confused.

T Talk

Transsexuality forces individuality on a person to such a depth that grouping transgendered people is always touch-and-go.

The protocol for talking about who a person was, is to refer to them by their current gender pronoun. Even though Amy was a boy in 1990, a speaker would begin, “In 1990, she was…”

I would like be known as a “woman.” I don’t mind, “transsexual woman” or “transgendered woman” when they are needed to distinguish. In “T-talk” “genetic woman” or “biological woman” are also used.

black widow

hhhmmmmm...... my totem animal is the spider, black widow to be exact. i just love insex.

Have Faith

The "eternal return" stopped and made skyscrapers;  That was not on the native american's were imagining, which was just: "more of the same, only slightly different."

Sure, technology & civilization were a mixed "blessing," if you want to call it that, but my point is specifically that life is not all circles and pendulums;  If that were the case, we'd all be hunting right now.

Feminism actually happened.  Change was really made.  (Activists are usually the last to know, that they've won.)  We aren't living in the 1950's anymore.

The simple fact is that romance and marriage have transformed dramatically in the last two decades.

I may have spoke too much, and turned off monkeyblood, but Reality hasn't stopped, because of our conversation here.  We will all leave this conversation holding the points raised in the back of our mind, and the the calculation will continue.

It's a dictate from the universe:  The calculation will continue.

Brian's Dream

I can’t speak much to the experience of being a woman as I have only identified as one for eight years, and I have been revirginized. I have no sexual identity to speak of. I am like a girl more than a woman still.

Being so singular however I hope and feel and that I may somehow participate in the missing link, monkeyblood, of these dilemmas, perhaps in a way that does not directly involve discussion of gender. My role has to do with translating psychic wisdom that will help weave the world-tapestry, the fibers of which are gender inclusive.

Last night Brian George had this dream: 3 critics of "Adam Clay" had been swallowed by the flow of debris-laden lava on a volcano. Lion was among them. Then, halfway up the slope, I saw Lion, on foot, pulling another version of himself behind him in a wooden cart, of the type they used to transport witches to the stake. I thought, "How can he still be alive when he has already been swept away by the lava? He must like getting burnt."

The volcano is erupting with monkeryblood’s emotion – the raw, righteous emotion of the feminine, of Earth. You, Lion, are shown sacrificing the part of yourself that demonizes women. It may edify you to sacrifice this, to avoid generalizations; or at least to delicately qualify them.

Or perhaps say nothing at all about women, and instead just say, “Men are compromised by the scarcity of sex, so x y z need to be done…” You don’t want to alienate the people needed to service men.

I recently dreamed: A woman says, “Women kill. They don’t need to hunt.” Feminine power, feminine yang need to be as respected as masculine power, masculine yang, or your cart is not going make it to the fire.

It still doesn't work.

But I tire of telling how consistently your myths glorify the female and castrate the male.

I like you a lot as a person, but your myths just don't work for me.

Righteous Anger

Is there such a thing as the righteous "emotion" of the masculine, of the Earth?

Could you give any examples?

Or is anger only righteous when experienced by women?

Earthanger

“Righteous” was a poor word choice. I simply meant that monkeyblood was right to be angry.

When a superhuman entity such as the Earth is angry there is no chance of its anger being wrong, so again my word choice was weak.

Recently, I saw an old man on TV talking about being in the Everglades in the 1930s. He killed like 500 alligators a week for their hides. He spoke of flocks of birds swooping down at him so close he felt attacked. There’s your example.

Earth's Gender?

My family and I make omairi to a Shinto shrine principally dedicated to Sarutahiko Ookami.  (Here we are, last Sunday noon!), and in Shinto, the Earth is associated with Sarutahiko Ookami, who is male.  The sun is associated with Amaterasu Oomikami, who is female.

I just want to suggest that Earth is not always associated with the female principle.

enantiadromia

The moon and sun in different cultures are seen as both feminine and masculine as well.

A discussion about gender it would be impossible without seeing one in terms of the other.

Can you acknowledge my anger?

Do you think men are right to be angry?

Do you think I have any right to be angry?

And to voice that anger?

We're all made of Earth here.

I'm asking you to acknowledge men's anger, but all I'm getting are stories of walking abortions and alligator murderers.

Agreed.

Agreed;  I have a hard time w/ Drupal navigation as well.  Ho boy!

Yes, women bleed.  Men bleed too;  It's just that we're ostracised for showing any bleeding, and especially ostracised for confronting those who cause us to bleed.  (Because they bleed visibly.)

Warren Farrel said:  The strength of women is the appearance of weakness.  The weakness of men is the appearance of strength.

I love women.  I love women beyond all the "feminine traits" and "masculine traits" -- I don't believe in assigning genders to virtues.  I love my daughter, my girlfriend, the women in my life, the older women, the really old women in my life;  So wonderful, so precious.  So insightful.  So meaningful to me.  There is a genuine womanly flavor, and I seek it out specifically at times, for some guidance on some question.  And there is sex;  There is always sex.  I'm not interested in distinguishing eros from sex, or cutting it into categories.

But there is a conversation we have to have, a conversation that has not been held.  It may have to come after the messy and violent 3rd wave men's movement, equivalent to 2nd wave feminism.  I don't know.  I hope not.  We will see.

Another Way to Do Activism

Let's just stop.  And let's invent another way to do activism.

We shouldn't have to come home, bitter every day.

Some people just say (and do) wise things.  Reliably, and consistently.

How?

I want another way.  Bitter depressed activists;  I've seen them so many times, bearing the brunt of a war for the ungrateful.

Something different.

An Idea

How about this?

Activity: Write a post that compliments and appreciates, in a way that they'd like to be appreciated, people (don't name them) of the opposite sex, that you actually know (or have known) in your life.

Invited: Amy George, monkeyblood, McNuggetz, cjmoore, ecolocal, myself, and any readers who have been silently reading along.

a living production of metaphor

1) a) LK, you have given a brief history of evolution, focusing on the primordial violence still echoing into the present. The Gnostic story, “On the Origin of the World,” depicts the various characters at play on the stage of primordial violence, and does so without judgment. It is not saying he is bad and she is good. It is saying this is the way it was. It is a history – a collective, psychic history retold as a drama – but a history nonetheless. You can call history bad no more than you can call 2 + 2 = 4 bad. 2 + 2 = 4 doesn’t suck.

You noted the “sick” and “disgusting” epochs of antiquity. The story dramatizes these. It is saying primeval society was ruthless and violent, and that this alienated Sophia/wisdom. It is saying the ancients were foolish. You said yourself that this foolishness persists today: "Humanity has kept it at bay (we think,) but it's there in the back of our minds, in our fantasies, and it's there in the porn stories." Why not elucidate the foolishness with a mythical diagram of its roots? If you answer that is it biased against men, I will reply that it is biased against imbalance in general.

If I rewrote it to include the feminine as one half of the Authorities would it suit you? I really will do it, if it will make difference.

The gender of the Authorities is not once named. They are non-gendered, parasitically living through both men and women. They are said to rape, which may seem to masculine them. But women can rape, too, not with the penis, but existentially in the ways you have generalized in your writing, which in sum are existential rape.

b) Calling the man an “abortion” means that his behavior did not edify his belonging as a man on Earth. Rather he was more like an animal than a man. Again, that is not value judgment. It is fact. It is not saying that man incapable of educated and upstanding.

Today, as mentioned, the "abortion's" animalism still echoes. Some behaviors in practice today won’t survive; behaviors like making snide remarks in community forums. These behaviors will be aborted like the ignorance of the primeval man. (But his vitality will self-perpetuate, which is what you want.)

c) As we have discussed, socialization perverts and deforms masculinity, resulting in rigidity and numbness. Rigidity and numbness do not need to be castrated. They need to learn to feel, which is what I see happening in the women-on-top dream. The men are learning to feel. They are not being castrated. They are being exorcised of rigidity and numbness – not of their exuberance. Their exuberance is being edified; edified by stillness and receptivity. A seed cannot sprout if it is in motion.

The reason men are less attuned to feeling than women is that the better part of their feeling collects in their genitals. It is forced down there through male socialization. The penis is the only area of feeling some men have. I devolved into such a man.

The libido of young guys such as yourself sometimes has so much momentum that any suggestion of slowing down is perceived as a tyhreat to manhood. This is because men earn their manhood by fighting through restraint. So to give in to any kind of perceived restraint is counterintuitive, and uncalled for unless harm to self orothers becomes an issue - yet harm is being done ever so subtly day-in and day-out.

It is a harm called age, caused by the inability of the cell to reproduce because the mind has too much momentum. It is caused by the mind/body split. Were mind and body one, a human being would be an immortal being.

Women-on-top therapy is priomarily for men at a later stage, for whom greater feeling is needed to edify doing. In contrast, for the young guy, doing has not yet diverged from feeling.

2) Healing depression provides a correlate to man’s relearning of feeling.

Perhaps you would say depression ought to be avoided with medication. I would reply that depression is the soul’s way of saying, “No, forget it. I am not participating in this world.” As such, muting depression with medication is to forsake one’s own self, a part of oneself that has too much feeling to participate in an unfeeling and ignorant environment. Charles Eisenstein writes brilliantly of this in his Reality Sandwich essay, Mutiny of the Soul, which I highly recommend for its perspectives on depression, fatigue and anxiety.

The black hole you intuit before you, before the world, is either a black hole of violence or one of depression. In material reality, a black hole cannot be survived. In metaphorical reality, it can be – you say by going through it. I say by feeling it, experiencing it till is disappears. To neutralize the metaphorical black hole one allows oneself to feel it. This is depression. When one fights the black hole, there is anxiety. When one refuses to confront it, there is ignorance.

3) You wrote: So by this picture, "the way out," suggested, is to stop having sex, to make chastity the social "enlightened" practice, or to genetically re-engineer the human being so as to not need sex, or perhaps to give robotic sex partners to everyone, or whatever.

But the way through is to take sex head on. To say, "This thing of darkness, I acknowledge as my own," and to look deeply into what it is, and so on. Other metaphors are to delve, to dig, as well as to accept. And here we get into the intelligence story.

It is not necessary to be so extreme. A little abstinence can help an individual find the way out. A little abstinence is one way to take sex head on – to ask, “How do I feel when I am not having sex, for awhile? – not a lifetime.” This is a way to repossess sex from habit.

At the other of the spectrum is your proposal, of saying, “Men are defined by sexual scarcity, so let’s give them what they need.” Opposite ends of the spectrum always meet. Abstinence is needed no less than easy-access to highly-ethical sexual gratification.

(What is “the intelligence story”?)

4) You approach these problems as a behavioralist. I do as a mystic. This is a major source of our disconnects.

You call repeated harmful behaviors “what men do/are like” and “what women do/are like.” I call repeated harmful behaviors products of “negative  archetypes.”

Framing behavior as the product of an archetype allows for a whole new range of ways of seeing and managing behavior – ways you dismiss out of hand, I think, to the detriment of your agenda.

5) You have written of your resistance to not using generalization, that avoiding it would weaken your writing. I can’t buy this. Specificity and detail are necessary. Without them the feminine becomes enraged. You have to account for each micron. What do microns have to do with men and women? They are made of them. They are made of both sex and eros.

In favor of generalization, you resisted differentiating these two - sex and eros. The difference is simple. Sex is an act. Eros is feeling. How is this not useful?

6) I also happened across a mention in your writings of pain not being spiritual. All saints and mystics will tell you that pain is a pathway to the spiritual; that a pathway to spiritual is feeling because the spiritual is kept at bay by numbness – the residual numbness of socialization. There are 5 essential pathways to the spiritual: being, doing, feeling, knowing and belonging. Of these pain is included in feeling. Tell me how pain iis not spiritual. Because it is instrinsic to suffering and suffering is meaningless? Suffering edifies knowledge. "Knowledge is individuation" I recently dreamed. The words were etched in stone on a church.

7) I often illustrate my points with metaphor. The linear mind, the scientific mind, the archetypal male mind resists the efficacy of metaphor. It blows metaphor off because it is untestable. There is no one-time experiement for validating metaphor's efficacy.

Yet when one sits with and studeis metaphor long enough, one will see that its operation has a logic that illuminates the rational mind, partially by subsuming it. Utilizing metaphor as the substance of consciousness is a matter of orientation.

Metaphor is how God expresses his/her/its reality to the evolving human mind. Metaphor is a product of higher intelligence. With metaphor everything exists in the context of something else, and does so in an orderly fashion. As such metaphor is the glue of universal interconnectedness.

Interconnectedness is inherent in the universe, in existence, but it cannot be fully grasped without integrating metaphor as the intellignece in the fibers of interconnectedness.

Metaphor, if you follow its path, leads ever deeper into the structure of interconnectedness, the crown of which is the uninty of male and female.

8) You wrote: I generally reject personal gender integration stories, for the reasons that Sam Keen gave in "Get Over It."

Ouch. Again, that word “generally.” There is a degree of similarity to personal gender integration stories. Mine is utterly unique and dissimilar. Now from personla experience I know why monkeyblood erupted at you.

9) You wrote: This doesn't mean that I reject you, or that I reject metaphor, archetype, dream, and myth, the core of your reality. But those things can be oppressive, rather than liberating, and it's important to see symbols as symbols, rather than as commands from the cosmos;

On the contrary, they are commands from the cosmos, and metaphor, myth. dream, et al, are my liberation. They form the river of my Salvation. I personify the cosmic feminine, being the product of metaphor, not of sex. Reject metaphor and you reject me.

The symbolic will stop being oppressive once it is globally integrated into perspective.

Through alchemy metaphor reconciles the material elements (lead, gold) and spiritual components (love, being, doing, knowing, feeling, belonging) of which a person is made. It is a recipe for the reconciliation of the genders within the individual. Without a reconciliation of gender made strong with metaphor, the reconicilation will never take place.

10) LK: I hope you don’t give up on this process, this discussion. I have written this post with some haste, to keep my end of the discussion moving. Ordinarily, I would take weeks to synthesize such ideas.

11) Hi monkeyblood. Yes, Brian's dream offered us an instance of transpersonal intimacy. So cool, and an example of the relevance of the material LK finds oppressive.

12) I acknowledge your Activiy suggestion, LK, and will wait for others to take it up.

13) It's obvious that you are angry. Why do you need your anger acknowledged?

Why?!?

It's essential to acknowledge my anger, McNuggetz anger, the anger of just about all conscious man(male)-kind.

If you (and woman-kind) don't acknowledge our anger, then you don't know what we're upset about, and you (collectively) won't change.  Can't change.

Feminists said, "Men, you're hurting us, and we're angry.  We're angry because of this, that, and the other thing."

More specifically:  "We don't like being made into sex objects.  We don't like that when we talk, you don't listen to us, you don't hear us.  We don't like that you won't let us work.  We don't like that you don't take us seriously.  We don't like that the laws are against us.  We don't like that you call us slut if we aren't virgins."  And more, and more -- it really takes a movement, to really express the situation.

And that's all on the intellectual/symbolic/words level.

On the emotional/voice/feeling level, the message was: "We're fucking mad as hell!  We hate this!  This really hurts!  Ouch!  Bad bad bad!  This situation is really bad!"  Perhaps yells, shouts, expressions of fury, postures and poses, would much better express it.

And you know what?

Men acknowledged that anger.

Men, both collectively and individually, said, "You know what?  She's got a good point."

And you know what?

It was good that men acknowledge that anger, both good for women, and good for men.

Women were heard, and women felt heard;  Women were seen, and it was good.  Women were loved.  By men.  Men said, "We were wrong," and made it so all these transitions could be made in society.

It's an incomplete project.  There's still a lot of work to be done.  Domestic violence still exists, for example.  Rape still happens.  But look, my last manager was a woman, I have met female programmers, there are many women in the office here, at all levels of activity -- the world really has changed.  And it wasn't only by force that women got all these things.

It's like the saying, "Not a single woman voted, to give women the vote."

All this came from listening to and really seeing women, their frustrations, and from hearing and acknowledging their anger.

So this is why it's really important to acknowledge McNuggetz anger, why it's really important to acknowledge my anger, why it's really important to acknowledge men's anger, as a class.

McNuggetz and I have different ideas, to be sure.  And no, I can't speak for all mankind.  But there's real stuff going on here;  There is real anger.

It is righteous, and there is good cause for it.  (Here's one example.)

So, my request to you, is to acknowledge the anger.

Responses to other points can come later.

The Golden Rule

Yes, ignore the thing that makes you angry, take time away from it – good counsel. The article advocates Buddhist detachment without naming it as such.

I used to be as angry as any man on the planet. I have to say it is much more gratifying to be acknowledged as a woman than as an angry man - not that men's anger(or really just anger in general) doesn't need acknowledging.

Participating in this discussion for me has been an exercise in continuing to exorcise my residual male anger, or not even male anger really, but the style of expressing anger where people childishly snipe at each other. A dream showed my exorcism of anger less dramatically, as me standing at my bathroom sink washing gunky gobs of feces off my hands.

Having a sense of humility goes a long way in anger management. Pride stokes anger into wrath.

The mature will have their anger acknowledged, but that is a secondary concern compared to that of making progress toward forging truths that are most beneficial for all. So when the mature experience people behaving harmfully, they become angry, like monkeyblood’s volcano, to make the harm stop. Their anger is not personal either. In fact, as hot as it might get, it is coldly impersonal. Brian George characterized it well as shooing mosquitoes out of the house. A mature anger does not care about personally attacking an individual any more than it does about personally attacking a mosquito. Immature anger revels in measured personal attack. The immature use their anger to hurt, belittle and appear dominant.

Instead of sniping back I have written angry poems.

McNuggetz, how would you like it if someone were to imply they were making you eat your words by commanding you to swallow their truth, and called you “Sweetie” while they did it? You have been uncivil numerous times during this discussion. The same lack of respect you dish out is the same that comes back to you, from the world.

McN, thank you for your input

Your questions were answered until you become uncivil. You are still being uncivil so your questions don’t invite answering, only more incivility, but let’s forbear from it.

Speaking for LK, mb, el, cj and Brian George, we know your agenda: survival, death, spirituality is rubbish, hos, dogs, spinning. We get it and don’t want anymore of it because we have a set of unrelated issues to pursue. Thank you for your input.

If you read my piece previously published on Reality Sandwich, “The Buddhas of New Zealand,” you will know from the comments that follow it, that my dreams informed how I responded to other uncivil people. My dreams guide everything I do, and have been for many years. I am an egoless puppet to them. They remark on everything in my life, so of course they have remarked on this forum with attention to you.

I want to share a particular recent dream in case it will have any bearing for you, perhaps in a future time. It can take dreams many years to have their meaning grasped.

Also, I want to remind that Brian George has set a precedent in this discussion for having a dream relevant to its contributors. In my world, the seminal consciousness of dreams throws water on death like Dorothy does on the Wicked Witch.

I go with a group to a little house in the high hills to play a game. When we arrive a bad omen is on the steps: a small, frail, sickly boy with limpid eyes. He’s so harmless, but creepy as heck. A dude is sitting innocuously on a couch.

The owner of the property calls on a phone I have to dig out of the dirt. The owner sounds old. I imagine a white-haired crone. She threatens that she better not find any signs of alcohol when she gets there. Then she curses at me harshly and unexpectedly, saying something like, “You f---ers better have the place motherf---ing spotless when I get there. I’m selling the place for 380,000. Bought it for 320.” She is scary and ominous. I am in fast-action mode getting the group together to clean up all the alcohol empties and get moving, and also to take the creepy small boy to the police. As we leave the spirit of the old woman has gone into some guys chasing us in their car and throwing things at us.

The game we go to your house to play is the game you have been playing in this forum with the participation of some of us. All 3 people associated with the house are you. They co-exist presently, as faces that comprise the whole you have brought to this discussion. The boy, the dude on the couch, and the old woman are you at this moment. Pulled apart and stretched across time, it is easy to imagine that you were an embittered foul-mouthed crone in your last life who, like you, reduced life to survival. She/you survived death – as we eternally do – and found yourself back again as that littlekid, who grew into you, who is not different from the old woman, the little boy or the dudes throwing things at us in the end of the dream.

As for the other parts of the dream, I think the telephone was in the dirt because that old crone part of you was calling from the grave. She was actually giving good advice about cleaning the alcohol-empties.

When people get in manipulative and emotional discussions such as the one here, the people are, in dreams’ view, drunk. Anything that hampers judgment dreams will symbolize with drunkenness. In the dream, all the alcohol is gone – there are only empties – because my judgment is clear, except for some of the refuse from when I used to metaphorically drink.

The house is on a high hill. You are up high on a hill where it feels like no one can touch you, where no one can touch the little boy. That the old crone is selling the house probably portends your feminine nature “cashing it in.” What this will mean in waking-life, I don’t know.

McN

You would have known I have not menstruated once in my life had you been reading the threads. If you want to know why I have not menstrtuated go to www.amygeorge.net. Also, I have been writing a blog for a local newepaper interpreting dreams since December 2006. Here's the link:

If you ever need help with a dream, the email address to send it to is listed on the blog.

oh, that's why

Thank you for the explanation of why you need your anger acknowledged, LK. Your detailed response really helps everyone to know what exactly is being acknowledged. Consider your anger acknowledged by me.

Response Priority?

At the risk of falling into DivergingArguments, ...

* The Authorities Myth (1a, 1b)  -- lots to say
* Sexuality & Men (1c, 3)  -- lots to say (preview, fragment)
* Depression (2) -- doesn't really talk to me (ie, I am strongly anti-medication as "treatment" for depression.)

* Behavioralist-Mystic, Symbols (4, 7, 8, 9) -- lots to say, but immediately: this mischaracterizes me & my thoughts; I substantially agree with you, and don't understand why you think I disagree.
* Generalization (5) -- I'm pretty sure you misunderstand my position.  (A little bit to say.)

* Spiritual & Psychic, Pain (6) -- Very little to say, largely definition work, then clarity.  (DONE -- I just responded on a wiki page.)

* Giving up on conversation? (10) -- No, of course not. (DONE.)
* Activity (12) -- OK.  (DONE.)
* Acknowledging Anger (13) -- Already written, awaiting response.  (DONE.)

Point 11 not directed to me.

If you have a preference for a particular response, please let me know.
