Acoustic Black Holes

blackholesound-200.jpg

Acoustic black holes have been created artificially by physicists in an attempt to prove the existence of Hawking radiation.  The sound-trapping black holes are made "...by coaxing a material to move faster than the speed of sound in that medium, so that sound waves traveling within it cannot keep up, like fish swimming in a fast-moving stream. The sound is effectively trapped in the stream-like event horizon."

sick

that's just too cool.

Black Hole?

That's cool, but is that really a "black hole." My impression was that if this were truly a black hole it would suck in the sound waves, not merely move faster than them. www.sniffcode.com

Welll....

They could have saved themselves a lot of money and just used my high school auditorium. ;>

this is interesting, buuuuuuutttt....

i agree with mr. masonic--similar kinds of acoustic 'dead zones' exist all over the place. There might be one in your living room! ;)

real black holes

http://theresonanceproject.com Nassim Haramein has rewritten physics. and it makes sense. things actually come out of the black hole, travel around it, then go back in. torus/doughnut/galaxy shape. the hole is in the middle.

sonic boom

the process described does not sound any different then what happens when you are sitting in a ultrasonic airplane and whistle a tune as you cross the sound barrier. Or did I miss something?

...matter and energy.
