Alex Grey and the Mind Parasites

Alex's Vision

Alex was in a loft in Boston where a colleague of Timothy Leary had given a group of 15-20 people, most of them quite inexperienced, LSD.  Alex took a double dose. The social environment of Alex's trip was extremely chaotic--some people were laughing uncontrollably, some were vomiting, some were groping other people, and there was no one who was managing the chaos. Alex began to have an out-of-body experience, and found himself hovering above the weirdness of what was going on in the loft. On some different plane he saw deities drinking from a pool of "electric milk" a "vast lake of timpani," of "vibrating energy." Alex described the vision as follows:

"I had a vision of the group soul of humanity as a perfectly circular pool of intense living light. All around the rim of the milky pool were a complex variety of sexual rites, a metaphor for all social interaction. Translucent Hindu deities swooped over the group taking the excessive energy of the shimmering pool and passing through the group as ecstasy and pain. I saw that the reason we were all brought together was to provide a psychic energy feast for the Gods and Goddesses. I saw my heart as the axis of karmic, earthly, and universal energies, transected by and uniting the polarities of male/female, birth/death, good/evil, and love/hate. To maintain a balance of forces we all fed both Deities and Demons."

This visionary experience eventually became the masterpiece: Demons and Deities Drinking from the Milky Pool.

( This painting is published in Sacred Mirrors, which is filled with extraordinary images and you can order it through alexgrey.com, Amazon, etc.)

A Vision of the Top of the Food Chain

The demons and deities were feeding from a pool of "vibratory energetic milk" created from human activities of all kinds, though Alex used sexual coupling to represent human activities in general. I suggested that that the couplings were visual shorthand of human energetic transactions of all kinds and Alex responded enthusiastically to that description. Apparently, the deities were drinking from a vibratory pool of the energetic metabolism of the species so that through the pool they were drawing energy from the entire species.

A reductive way of describing Alex's vision is to say that it represents the very top of the food chain. The painting, however, is much more than that; it is a revelation of the human form transcending the food chain.  Transcendence does not mean removing or floating above something.  What you transcend is still present, and the transcendent state includes that which is transcended while new vistas of awareness are added. Alex's paintings are "forbidden seeing" --revelations of what is hidden but that the species desperately needs to see. Conventionally we see ourselves as the top of the food chain, but Demons and Deities... reveals this as a delusion convenient to those who harvest our energy.  Another realization about this painting is that it is a classic illustration of the alchemical principle of "as above, so below."   We see the same range, if more polarized, of darkness and light amongst the deities at the cardinal points of the mandala as we do in the human couplings that form the perimeter. And there was also a similar dark/light range in the chaotic loft where some people were acting out dark compulsions while Alex was receiving this transcendent vision.

Sexual Chi as Food Source

Alex's artistic decision to represent all human activities by a range of sexual couplings was no random choice.  Sexual chi is a potent energetic food that can be harvested by human parasites and predators and possibly other types of parasites and predators. Orgasms can be viewed as energetic flowers blossoming in the collective human energy field. The couplings are arranged in a kind of circular spectrum from loving couplings to atavistic, sadistic-looking couplings. Benevolent entities appear to be feeding off the energy of the loving couplings and demonic entities, one of which looks like a devouring vagina, are feeding off of the degraded  (sex as a metaphor for power) couplings. Orgasms, which are energetic eruptions into, and interpenetrations with, the collective human field, vary from the ecstatic unions of loving soulmates to the sadistic ejaculations of rapists. The couplings that Alex depicts in this image can be viewed as a circular spectrum of these possibilities oriented to the cardinal points of a mandala where there are also associated deities.

A Carnival of Lost Souls

The background of Alex's vision is also interesting and instructive. He was in a chaotic boundary-dissolving experience with a group of people who were predominantly strangers. Socially dense environments of strangers and substances mixing together are likely to default to lowest-common-denominator factors of social parasitism/sexual predation/chaotic acting out of fragmented personalities-what I sometimes call a carnival of lost souls. Everything depends on who are the particular people in a group that is having a boundary-dissolving experience or ritual. Naïve people frequently forget this. Such people think the ritual is what matters and take all comers, but this can be a disaster! Generally, I think it unwise to have boundary- dissolving experiences (such as sex and/or hallucinogenic trips) with people you don't know and wouldn't trust with your life, because you are trusting your life with them. There are, of course, exceptions to everything and a visionary as great as Alex Grey was able to rise above the experience and receive a powerful vision about human energy and the entities that harvest it. (Though I have a feeling he wouldn't choose to be in another such chaotic situation.) Otherwise, I caution people about doing things such as going to a rave with a sketchy vibe redolent of prowling sexual agendas (in other words, almost any rave) and opening themselves to the toxic energy by taking a boundary-dissolving substance. Unless you want to internalize a carnival of lost souls it is probably unwise to blow yourself wide open in an setting of trance-inducing music/lighting and stoned people, many of them on the prowl for parasitic sexual encounters.

An Ancient Gnostic Text on Parasitic Abduction

The power of this image is that it shows those who harvest our energy, and yet at the center of the image is the human empowerment that occurs as we awaken to the food chain. The ancient Gnostics had similar visions and called the harvesting deities the "Archons"  (see: A Gnostic View of Mind Parasites). Also, notice how closely the scenario described below parallels a modern alien abduction experience.

(The following ancient Gnostic text is excerpted from the superb metahistory.org website. Here's the link to the full article.)

From The First Apocalypse of James (NHC V, 3), a revelation dialogue in which an unnamed teacher (the "Lord" or "Master") confers secret knowledge upon a Gnostic named James:

The Master said: James, behold, I shall reveal to you the path of your redemption. Whenever you are seized and you undergo death-pangs (mortal fear), a multitude of Archons may turn on you, thinking they can capture you. And in particular, three of them will seize you, those who pose as toll collectors. Not only do they demand toll, but they take away souls by theft.

Now, when you come under their power, one of them who is the overseer will say to you: "Who are you, and where are you from?"

You are then to say to him, "I am a child of humanity and I am from the Source."

He will then say to you, "What sort of child are you, and to what Source do you belong?"

You are to say to him, "I am from the pre-existent Source, and I am the offspring of the Source."

Then he will say to you, "Why were you sent out from the Source?"

Then you are to say to him, "I came from the Pre-existent One so that I might behold those of my kind and those who are alien."

And he will say to you, "What are these alien beings?"

You are to say to him: "They are not entirely alien, for they are from the Fallen Sophia (Achamoth), the female divinity who produced them when she brought the human race down from the Source, the realm of the Pre-Existent One. So they are not entirely alien, but they are our kin. They are indeed so because she who is their matrix, Sophia Achamoth, is from the Source. At the same time they are alien because Sophia did not combine with her like in the Source (her divine male counterpart), when she produced them."

When he also says to you, "Where will you go now?"

You are to say to him, "To the place when I came, the Source, there shall I return." And if you respond in this manner, you will escape their attacks.

(NHC V, 3. 33 - 34: 1- 25. Translation from NHLE 1990, pp. 265-6 and Kurt Rudolf, Gnosis, p. 174-5.)

What I find amazing is that Alex, in creating this painting, has followed the instructions of the unnamed Gnostic teacher to perfection. The image shows that which is human and alien. It also shows that man is from the source and at the center.  This is the secret of our transcendence of the food chain according to the Gnostics. The Archons are masters of deception who manipulate by encouraging us to give away our power to external saviors and authorities. We become like the living dead when they succeed, like Tolkien's Ring Wraiths--withered, obsessed beings forever craving but unable to reach "The Precious," which could take the form of an object or person of desire, or a fanatic ideology/fundamentalist religion that enslaves us to its version of salvation. When the deceivers succeed we get, for example, possessed suicide bombers hungry for death and their seventy-two virgins in paradise. The way out of this deceptive matrix is the recognition that we are of the source, of the source of nourishment. An incompleteness is revealed in the Archons because they must depend on us for their derivative nourishment. Clearly Alex was brought out from the source to behold such things and share with us his revelations.

A way out of the bondage of deception is the path of wholeness that is our birthright. The principle of androgyny, the inner alchemical marriage of yin and yang, masculine and feminine, releases us from an enslaved relation to the matrix. I have written about this in Casting Precious into the Cracks of Doom--Androgyny, Alchemy, Evolution and the One Ring

Two Other Related Alex Grey Paintings

despair2

Two of Alex's paintings in his book Transfigurations depict what seem to me a mind parasite attack and the human condition of bondage and mind parasite insertion. In the painting entitled Despair we see a figure with his head down  being attacked by small entities equipped with stingers and insectile parts while inside the mouth of some larger deity. The points of attack seem to correspond to chakras. In Self-Hate/Endarkenment we see humans held in shackles and an entity appears to be stinging the figure in the foreground in his third eye. To me it seems as if it is inserting its mind or will into this human victim.

Addendum:

After I wrote the above, on August 14 of 2006, Alex joined me for thirty minutes of a three hour interview with George Noory of Coast-to-Coast AM.  After he recounted the LSD experience I asked Alex if he thought that the parasitic beings had influenced the chaotic behavior he witnessed in the loft.

Alex replied:

"At one point I did feel that this entire thing has been orchestrated by these beings, that our coming together was not an accident... When we feel influenced to do certain things, or intuitively guided to do certain things- many times we may seek guidance from a higher realm-In the same way one can be vulnerable to the influence from beings from a lower realm."

Alex then described another mind parasite experience he had under the influence of LSD:

"I remember one time being on one of the most harrowing LSD adventures I ever had. I felt like I was a flapper in the wheel of fortune and every realm of being and dimension was one of these slots that the little flapper was open to. And in one such dimension that was flying by I saw this really strange insect-like creature lunge out at me. After I came back from this trip, and for days afterward, I was really feeling out of sorts and very energetically drained. And I realized that this thing had jumped out and was probably still embedded in my aura. So I did a whole cleansing to draw all the energy back into the heart and then expand it out from the heart to banish this being."

Wow

Kudos Zap! First article I read from you that I can actually vibe with :P It just so happens that, while falling asleep last night, a thought came to my mind regarding precisely this phenomenon. As I pondered each chakra being coupled with a bio-psychological input/output system, I wondered what the input/output of the crown chakra would be. Whether the flow of consciousness could be considered vertical, horizontal or both.

Instead of framing the transference of "psychic energy" in the mythology of archons and deities, I tend to consider it as more of a trans-/inter-personal process. The "higher" and "lower" realm beings represent, in my mind, the myriad bio-psychological systems comprising the self, and the benevolent/malevolent transaction of "energy" the many means and modes of transference between individuals and groups. Of course one can always argue that a distinction between psycho-social phenomena and "higher order" processes involving "energy organisms" etc. is merely linguistic or dualistic and therefore arbitrary (and I would concur), but in the spirit of our secular culture I find it valuable to communicate these ideas within the accepted paradigms of "materialistic" (pshh) science.

Thanks for the article. I love learning more about the genius that is Alex Grey.

In the Carlos Castaneda series, there are mentions of similar possibilities ... "the Eagle feeding off human awareness" ... and of course ... "predatorial inorganic beings" ... 'hence the need for "impeccable living" .. to use all of ones awareness with direct conscious intent ... no inertial sloth ... the very "psychic gravy" that attracts such "lords of the left overs" type of energetic hunger.

The "cream off the top" that we unconsciously sacrifice due to not being fully energetically integrated within our own "energetic continuum."

freedom from parasites

All of these stories can be framed from a more personal level if one takes out the external. The thought that doubts and fears can appear as demons and thoughts of loving kindness might appear as angels is in no way to diminish them. What it does do is that it puts the responsibility and hence the control right back on your own plate. From the dzogchen buddhist view all is self, so these archons or parasites are just the embodied fears inherent in all of us. The more we buy into the them the more real they become and the minute we buy into them they become real. I am talking about taking back control for the whole human experience without diminishing ones visionary space which I feel is beautiful and as necessary to our survival as breathing. There is a Tibetan Buddhist technique called chod, where you ritually and visually offer yourself to all the demons, jealous gods and animals as food in order to break down your own fear and attachment to yourself. To quote Machig Labdron the founder of chod, " The only demon that you ever need to slay is the demon of the illusion of self" Once we destroy this demon, nothing can touch us as all is self and pure at the same time. Buddhists also talk about the six realms and our aversion and attachment to them and the need to overcome them and this is what Grey is talking about. They say one can exit suffering and enter Nirvana in a moment as one changes ones mind about the set of circumstances occurring to one. Demons can turn into angel and angels back into demons as we move from hate to love and back to hate again. This can occur in a moment and be banished in a moment. When we get to the point that we realize that we are all demons and angels and that those aspects in us make up our fine colours and our personality then we can truly begin to be compassionate and move beyond the dualistic nightmare we dance into on a regular basis. This is liberation from suffering. Check out my book and site www.buddhabrats.com or especially the left hand path as I deal with all of this and more and propose a beautiful and simple way through suffering to everything we ever wanted.

The "nephilim" + nuanced understanding of dzogchen view

* Very cool article! A nice combination of spirituality and creativity. The author is clearly quite insightful about alot of things

* I have a friend who told me a few times about these very beings - he called them the 'nephilim'...so this is very interesting. I don't know if they are real, but it's worthwhile considering.

* I need to offer a more nuanced view to in response to the compassionate offering by Adamastiamat about the dzogchen 'view' of 'self' (ie pristine awareness) in relation to world. Many teachers/texts do say 'all experience is only Mind.' However, this in fact is a kind of shorthand designed to assist realisation, to help people break out of the massively dominant belief in dualism - that they are a person 'here' in a world 'there'. It is one giant leap in the path to understand that actually, you as awareness are PRIMARY, and 'the world' is secondary. However there is another step to take. It is not precise and accurate to say "the world is you" or "you are the world".

Furthermore, telling this to spiritually immature people can lead (or contribute) to mental illness (I have seen this happen). That view is actually called 'solopsism' and is wrong, if one wishes to be philosophically precise.

You simply don't want to go around telling people that 'everything is just your mind'. Most people will just ignore it, but vulnerable people such as the mentally ill or those on drugs can take this the wrong way and - to use a shorthand: think they are some kind of 'god' - ironically becoming 'the biggest ego in the world' - and not in a good way! Whilst it is true that we are like a god in one way (pure awareness is the very basis of all experience - and therefore (the basis of) the entire universe of any individual), we do NOT have ultimate control over the phenomena that appear in that space. That is a SHARED thing. This is part of the beauty of it. Remember: the MIDDLE WAY, free from extremes.

(And by the way, a wonderful way to check any realisation is to see if it seems one-sided or extreme. If it is, it is probably off-the-mark!)

* It is not true to say that each being IS the world or "all is self".  An accurate metaphor is that Mind (intrinsic awareness) is like CLOTH, and appearances are like INK in that cloth. Or that awareness is like the space of the sky, and appeareances are like the clouds. NOTE:

1. The ink/clouds and the cloth/space UTTERLY intermingle/interpenetrate,  inseperably. They are not 'separate'.

and

2. The ink/clouds can never damage or change the cloth/space.

BUT they are not THE SAME thing.

Norbu himself gives the example that Mind (space-like intrinsic awareness-in-itself) is like a crystal ball. When you put it on a coloured cloth, it TAKES ON THE COLOUR of that cloth. So the EXPERIENCE is that the crystal is actually the colour of the cloth. But they are NOT existentially THE SAME. Crystal is one thing, the cloth it is 'experiencing' is another.

* Although it's good to teach others that about which you are certain out of compassion (beyond any self-gain), one reason that even quite advanced practitioners are reluctant to teach - and ESPECIALLY to act as gurus (Exemplars) - is because you have to wear the karma for any problems and suffering that result from mistakes in that teaching. So it is good to be careful. If you are teaching out of a very pure intention (beyond any personal gain) and have bent, bitten, burnt and hammered the particlar piece of gold you are offering many times until you do have a powerful certainty, then you have less chance of suffering problems later.

So for example there is little danger in teaching loving-kindness (like a 'spiritual friend'). If you are claiming to teach the ultimate teachings - or offering yourself as guru/exemplar - you need to be more careful ! It's very easy to confuse people and wrong teachings destroy people's faith in the dharma - with all the consequences for the world and the individual that will bring.

If your intention is pure but you still pass on incorrect teachings, you will still end up creating problematic karma. But it won't be as 'hot' if you did so with a very pure intention and teachings you have thoroughly tested - through life experience but also with the texts, living teachers and the sangha.

As it says in the Tao Te Ching: "the old masters were as careful as one crossing an icy mountain stream."

thanks for the comments

Jonathan Zap of zaporacle.com I'll have more to say later, but certainly the "mind parasites" live in a realm where the boundary between inner and outer blur. The theory is only touched on here. For a full explanation see http://www.zaporacle.com/mind-parasites-energy-parasites-and-vampires/ and my other writings in the mind parasite section of my site: http://www.zaporacle.com/mind-parasites/ Or listen to my audio presentation : http://www.zaporacle.com/mind-parasite-matrix/ In the introductory essay I wrote: "Some of my fellow Jungians would also say that what I am calling mind parasites would be better described as autonomous complexes of the collective unconscious. I would have to respectfully disagree with them, at least in many cases, because if these were autonomous complexes of the collective unconscious I would expect to see their occurrence embedded with more psychological content and associated mythological motifs, and usually this is not the case."

Stereotyped Attacks

Jonathan Zap of zaporacle.com Many of the entity attacks seem highly stereotyped and lacking in psychological content. They are described very similarly by people with very different personalities.

LSD

AS a teenager in the late 60's when LSD came on the scene suddenly, I plunged into the psychedelic wave like a fish to water. When I first began taking LSD at the age of 17 I knew nothing about gnostic thought, I only knew what I heard on the street, what I had read about LSD in Life magazine.I had mostly only read some science fiction.LSD seemed like some kind of magic butterfly that fluttered into my world like a Dylan or Donovan song.I had thought of myself as a beatnik at about 12 when after the assassination of JFK my childhood came to an abrupt end, and I saw a movie with some beatnik poet reciting his poetry. To me then who had begun to read some poetry, and was looking for some "times a changin", the words "turn on, tune in, drop out" sounded like beat poetry.I took a lot of LSD between the age of 17 and 19, mostly in 67' 68'.Years later my last LSD trip I was in a ritual called the Rites of Eleusis.Since my first trip days as a teenager, I began reading a lot of books about subjects that related to the psychedelic experience.I decided to make myself into a poet, I wanted to be an artist like Alex Gray, I had a hippie friend I met in 69' that was an amazing artist, he did stuff that was kinda like Alex Gray. So, I moved to a city that was a hippie hangout, with a University.I did not go to the University, but I hung out in the library a lot, and did a lot of my reading there. I had met a crazy surfer that was a writer/poet that became a mentor, he had also taken a lot of LSD in his teens in L.A. I remember one day a famous poet we knew was standing in front of City Lights books, we happened to be in San Francisco that day, and the poet was kinda mocking us by commenting that we were some hippie LSD poets. As far as the content of the essay by Zap, I have never been to a rave, but in my early LSD days I spent a lot of my trips at concerts and Love-ins. I went up to Haight Ashbury in 67' and dropped acid and ran around the golden gate park. Many years later I was playing the part of Sol in the first series of the Rites of Eleusis done by OTO people in America. This ritual was like a shamanic-gnostic initiation, and as the god Sol I was given some pure LSD somewhere in the middle of it all.I was placed in a black box and one of the characters played a Egyptian god called Bez that had to dance on the box, I was inside there coming on to a strong dose of LSD.When I came out of the box it was like pure liquid gold was coming through the window through by body, in another Rite of Mercury we saw a hawk circling the house throughout the ritual. This was not the same as a rave but it took on a lot of very intense energy that worked with those realms of dark and light. So, a lot of this thought on this subject of demons and entities ect. I have to say that no matter how many books you read about this, or write about it after the fact, we just happen to enter into all this at whatever point of departure we happen to come in on it.In 67' I was searching for something beside the mundane world of TV reality.I had not read Castaneda as he was not yet around, I read a little bit of Tim Leary's psychedelic prayers, and the rest was trial and error, it was innocent, and it was desperate, as a 17 year old I already knew that the future looked like murder, like Leonard Cohen said years later. But at 17 I was listening to Suzanne takes you down to a place by the river. My self-published novel is a poetic attempt to go back into my 17 year old mind and relive those late 60's psychedelic days, it tells about the reality of drugs in those times and how LSD entered our youth and we began the trip to explore where the Beat generation left off, or "the lost generation".In those first trips it all was like a great opening and an adventure, we were doing something forbidden, and I don't really think of any of those first trips as bad but you became aware of the bummers, but for me it seemed like a necessary part of the ride, I knew that society was full of demons. So if you read my novel you are reading a time capsule, that was written many years later, that is like time machine, as much of the trip scenes move back and forth through time, it's the poetic psychedelic language that I use. There are messages in coded in the experimental surrealist writing, you have to read the trip to activate the writing between the curvy groovy lines. In between the trips is also the reality of our world, unfolding through the minds of the people that make our trip. And many years go by and Terence Mckenna talks about what it was like when all everybody did was refer to that last LSD trip. When that famous poet in Frisco was looking at us crazy acid-head poets and mildly mocking us, he too was thinking about those demons that all of us must confront.Poets are right out there, on the firing line, so it all becomes surreal psychedelic, even if you are not writing about what LSD was like. And I would not have to read Carlos Castaneda after the fact, or Crowley who was very much into psychedelic, I just had to read some obscure hippie poet who tripped balls in 67' 'Gone Hallucinogen Freeway'

Interesting,

I liked at the end, his description of how he got rid of the parasite, he made it sound so easy. In the picture self-hatred/Endarkenment it seems to me that the creature is like a pair of bellows sucking out the person's life-force, it seems if the person would just straighten up take some deep breaths and stretches, he'd be fine, but the chains seem to me to be the unconscious behavior, that can't be broken untill seen into.

All that about aliens harvesting souls reminds me of Antero Alli's book The Akashic Record Player.

Energy Parasites

I also believe that the boundary between external and internal is blurred. I have experienced energy parasites; the particular one I came across reminded me of a bee, hovering around us and sucking up energy via a protrusion around its mouth. In the same way as bees collect pollen, I intuitively sensed that the energy parasite was in some way circulating information/ideas as it circulated among us. It seemed as if the entity was unaware of us as living beings - just considering us as a food source.

"Archons"...?

"That same chapter includes a somewhat disturbing discussion of a "the deceivers" (called "archons" by the early Gnostics, as Hank observes in a footnote on page 250). Makua describes the deceivers as those 'free-ranging psychic entities, invisible beings [not spirits] who function as mind parasites...they especially attach themselves to our political, economic, and religious leaders--to all the major players in the game.' " http://www.amazon.com/gp/cdp/member-reviews/A1YXMYXKTYCM1R/ref=cm_pdp_re...

"The SACRED (whatever that means) is surely related (somehow) to the BEAUTIFUL (whatever that means)..."
Gregory Bateson

Sorry to sound ridiculous but...

...if there really are parasites that are especially attaching themselves to our political, economic, and religious leaders then could we be able to either individually or as a group perform a kind of excorcism, and attempt to flush them out, rather like Alex Gray flushed out his parasite from his aura? I think if humanity starts to understand it's psychic power and starts consciously using it, by using group meditations or intentions say, then things could improve quite quickly, in fact I think(hope) this is already happening.

Having tea with the demons

What always bothers me about the "parasite/archon" discussion is the overly literalized tone (and the potential paranoid reverberations...) . A more useful, nondual, sophisticated way would be the Tibetan shamanic-based approach of "feeding your demons": http://www.befriend-your-fears.com/page8.htm

"The SACRED (whatever that means) is surely related (somehow) to the BEAUTIFUL (whatever that means)..."

Jonathan Zap of

Jonathan Zap of zaporacle.com A distinction, and sometimes it's a slippery distinction, needs to be made between shadow work and dealing with a parasitic entity. I'm a Jungian and much of my writings relate to shadow integration. Here's a brief sample: http://www.zaporacle.com/card/facing-your-shadow/ I get into the distinguishing features in some of my essays on the subject such as http://www.zaporacle.com/mind-parasites-energy-parasites-and-vampires/ where I also point out that Buddhists recognize both inner darkness and also identify literal entities that have parasitic agendas. I'm not saying I agree exactly with their parasitic cryptozoology, but they clearly have one. Here's an excerpt from my essay: We have said very little so far about the possible etiology or origin of the mind parasites. One intriguing theory of origin is presented by Dr. Samuel Sagan ( clairvision.org ). According to this theory, at the time of human death, there are denser, darker fragments of consciousness that remain behind after the spirit departs the body. Dr. Sagan believes that many traditional funeral practices, especially those involving cremation, were originally designed to destroy these fragments. These lingering incomplete fragments of consciousness do not have their own direct connection to pranic or life energy, but must parasitically attach themselves to those that do. This seems similar to the Buddhist concept of the “hungry ghost.” The Sanskrit word for this type of entity is “preta.” A Buddhist Glossary defines the term, Preta: “(Sanskrit) Hungry spirit, a non-human being who experiences intense suffering of hunger, thirst, heat and cold.” Wikipedia gives a multi cultural reference to Preta: “The same understanding has Buddhism, where Hungry Ghosts (pretas) have their own realm in the Wheel of Life... “In Japanese Buddhism, two such creatures exist: the gaki and the jikininki. Gaki are the spirits of jealous or greedy people who, as punishment for their mortal vices, have been cursed with an insatiable hunger for a particular substance or object. Traditionally, this is something repugnant or humiliating, such as human corpses or feces, though in more recent legends, it may be virtually anything, no matter how bizarre. Jikininki (“man-eating ghosts”) are the spirits of greedy, selfish or impious individuals who are cursed after death to seek out and eat human corpses. They do this at night, scavenging for newly dead bodies and food offerings left for the dead. They sometimes also loot the corpses they eat for valuables, which they use to bribe local officials to leave them in peace. Nevertheless, jikininki lament their condition and hate their repugnant cravings for dead human flesh.”

Is this what you think about Jon?

Is this what you think about Jon? ghosts, here to eat your mind?

Ask yourself a question

Why do you think they were afraid of the dark in the first place?

Fear of the Dark Parading as Critique of Fear of the Dark?

Jonathan Zap of zaporacle.com Once again, it is easy to glibly dismiss extensive phenomena with a psychological formula when you haven't really done the homework and looked at the testimonies and really probed into it. The experiencers are often people who are far above average in their willingness to confront inner darkness. We certainly do exteriorize psyche all the time through projection, and particularly shadow projection, a subject I have investigated and written about extensively. But if you take the time to actually confront the material in this field you will not find it so easy to psychologize it away. But if you're afraid of the dark the you cannot psychologize, I can certainly understand why you might want to.

Its funny how you Jon Zap,

Its funny how you Jon Zap, so glibly dismissed a theory of psychedelic tryptamine indoles as a catalyst for language acquisition in middle paleolithic man outright as being some type of cultic non-sense. Though an investigation of the neuromechanics of cellular stimulation and possibly mutation via the tryptamine molecules is far more plausable from an empirical viewpoint than is your silly ghosts and your 'data' taken from 'testimonials' which seems about as reliable as my myriad journies through time via in vitro tryptamine uptake.<p>

Instead of swinging randomly from rational to speculative metaphysician of damaged auric meanderings, Its more reasonable to try to create a synthesis between experience and science. Thats why psychedelic study is important, because it blows these things wide open for investigation. If you understand the hard science of the brain, then it makes sense that any suitable metaphysical explanation of things would be a tandem resonance of that. Not some type of jargon philosophy grasping at loose threads using all the wrong terms to invoke some cliched poorly flushed out ghost story.

It seems like people believe what they want to believe and will do away with rational analysis when it fails to meet their beliefs. 'Ive written about ghosts!' Wow but that still doesn't make it verifiable in any real way other than your corrupt dream realm of discordant fantasies placated by your failings as a metaphysical journeyman into the peripheral realms. Perhaps the poltergeists are your own mental states you have left unacknowledged here to fester and congeal, like energy blockages. You could see a qigong master about that? Perhaps some acupuncture? Maybe just some psilocin tea and a crsytaline THH extract? Usually gets it flowing for me. But then Im the mad cultist who wants people to take my evil drugs which are produced by plants, proof that they are Satan spawned evil! And that the indigenous assholes butchered by our ancestors had it coming what with their communing with evil ghosts! You will have non of that! Fear will keep you in check. You don't need Tibetan psychology to help you understand that the peaceful and wrathful deities are really manifestations of our own mental states unacknowledged by novice practitioners and taken to be outside entities here to feed on your mind no less... Tell me when the ghosts have stopped screaming for you Jon.

Feeding your Demons

What struck me about this well written article is the similarity between a bon-tibetan Buddhist ritual called Chod ("cutting through") in which beings, including gods and demons are intentionally summoned and fed. The point of the feeding is, in most part, to compassionately fulfill the highest needs of all beings so that they will cease suffering. They are fed an amrita that provides not for wants but for the actual need to achieve enlightement and transformation from a samsaric state. Lama Tsultrim Allione has legitimately (not just in my humble opinion but because of her recognition as an emanation of the creatrix of the thousand year old practice, Machig Labdron) westernized a version of the chod practice called Feeding Your Demons. This practice is powerful when used on what modern psychology may call our shadow sides. The book is available on Amazon and I highly recommend meeting and working with a qualified Chod teacher/lama, as well, especially if you want to go deeper into the practice than the Western version.

Before studying the practice more deeply I believed that the Chod practice was shamanic. However, it has been since explained to me that the roots of this practice extend into the 'empty nature' and thus there is a subtle distinction that I have not yet completely grasped. That said, please keep in mind that there may be mistakes in my understanding as it exists now including my understanding that this Chod practice relates to the feeding in the article as well as other shamanic or 'shamanish' practices. May any mistakes lead to further understanding and only greater insight for any readers including me.

It depends...

I hear you, Jonathan. Certainly, it's a very slippery terrain...:

Thought-forms...they can feel robotic or hollow, lacking the spark that a living being has. (...) This happens in the relationship between such beings and ourselves. Unless the being has a strong core identity that it can successfully project into our world, it may anchor itself in our presence and relate to us by taking on some of our energetic characteristics. This can have odd effects. If a person's field is largely made up of negative, hostile, angry energies, the subtle being can take on these characteristics, too, and manifest them back. We might say, "Oh, we're in the presence of a demonic being." But the same subtle being can then go into the presence of someone who is radiant with love, joy, and attunement to higher-order energies and take on those energies instead. Now we would say, 'oh, a being of Light, maybe an angel, is with us!" Yet in both cases is the same entity.

"When making swords, the swordsmith invokes the aid of the guardian god. To invite him to the workshop, the smith surrounds it with consecrated ropes, thus excluding evil spirits, while he goes through the ceremony of ablution and dons the ceremonial dress in which he works. While striking the iron bar and giving it baths of fire and water, the smith and his helper are in the most intensified state of mind. Confident the god's help will be given to their work, they exert themselves to the limit of their powers, mental, physical, and spiritual. The sword thus produced is a true work of art. The japanesesword must reflect something deeply appealing ot the soul of the people. They look at it, indeed, not as a weapon of destruction but as an object of inspiration. Hence the legend of Okazaki Masamune the swordsmith and his products.

Masamune flourished in the latter part of the Kamakura era, and his works are uniformly prized by all the sword connoissuers for their excellent qualitites. As far as the edge of the blade is concerned, Masamune may not exceed Muramasa, said to be one of his ablest disciples, but Masamune is said to have something morally inspiring that comes from his personality. The legend goes thus: When someone was trying to test the sharpness of a muramasa, he placed it in a current of water and watched how it acted against the dead leaves flowing downstream. He saw that every leaf that met the blade was cut in two. He then placed a Masamune, and he was surprised to find that the leaves avoided the blade. The Masamune was not bent on killing, it was more than a cutting implement, whereas the Muramasa could not go beyond cutting, there was nothing divinely inspiring in it. The Muramasa is terrible. It has also been told that once drawn, a Muramasa blade has to draw blood before it can be returned to its scabbard, even to the point of forcing its wielder to wound himself or commit suicide. Thus, it is thought of as a demonic cursed blade that creates bloodlust in those who wield it. The Masamune is humane and having radiant spiritual power. One is despotic and imperialistic, the other is superhuman, if we may use this form of expression. Masamune almost never engraved his namme on the hilt, although this was customary with sword smiths."

Legends of Masamune and Muramasa

"A legend tells of a test where Muramasa challenged his master, Masamune, to see who could make a finer sword. They both worked tirelessly and eventually, when both swords were finished, they decided to test the results. The contest was for each to suspend the blades in a small creek with the cutting edge facing the current. Muramasa's sword, the Juuchi Yosamu (10,000 Cold Nights / 十千夜寒) cut everything that passed its way; fish, leaves floating down the river, the very air which blew on it. Highly impressed with his pupil's work, Masamune lowered his sword, the Yawarakai-Te (Tender Hands / 柔らかい手), into the current and waited patiently. Not a leaf was cut, the fish swam right up to it, and the air hissed as it gently blew by the blade. After a while, Muramasa began to scoff at his master for his apparent lack of skill in the making of his sword. Smiling to himself, Masamune pulled up his sword, dried it, and sheathed it. All the while, Muramasa was heckling him for his sword's inability to cut anything. A monk, who had been watching the whole ordeal, walked over and bowed low to the two sword masters. He then began to explain what he had seen.

"The first of the swords was by all accounts a fine sword, however it is a blood thirsty, evil blade, as it does not discriminate as to who or what it will cut. It may just as well be cutting down butterflies as severing heads. The second was by far the finer of the two, as it does not needlessly cut that which is innocent and undeserving."

In another account of the story, both blades cut the leaves that went down on the river's current equally well, but the leaves would stick to the blade of Muramasa whereas they would slip on past Masamune's after being sliced. Or alternatively both leaves were cut, but those cut by Masamune's blade would reform as it traveled down the stream. Yet another version has leaves being sliced by Muramasa's blade while the leaves were repelled by Masamune's, and another again has leaves being sliced by Muramasa's blade and healed by Masamune's.

In yet another story Muramasa and Masamune were summoned to make swords for the Shogun or Emperor and the finished swords were held in a waterfall. The result is the same as the other stories, and Masamune's swords are deemed holy swords. In one version of the story Muramasa is killed for creating evil swords.

While all known legends of the two ever having met are historically impossible, both smiths are widely regarded as symbols for their respective eras."

start with cases, not theories (inherited or otherwise)

Jonathan Zap of zaporacle.com A note to Zorro and some of the other commentators. In general it’s a bad method to start with a theory about complex paranormal phenomena. It’s better to immerse yourself in cases and then if patterns start to emerge you can begin theorizing. Thanks for the reference to Jacob’s Ladder, Zorro, that film is a visionary masterpiece. But, Zorro, although no one can falsify that there may be  shape-shifting entities that change their demeanor based on the spiritual state of a person, this does not seem to particularly jive with the cases I've studied. One experiencer interviewed on the Mind Parasite Matrix http://www.zaporacle.com/mind-parasite-matrix/ whom I know very well, Sean, has exceptional physical and spiritual courage. His attack was terrifying and he saw the entity with his eyes, wide awake and he’s a world class tracker with high situational awareness and observational skill. I’m not saying that entities that just mirror the state of experiencers don’t exist. I think the spirit world has more variety than here so no doubt there are entities of all sorts. Alex’s vision seems more a collective revelation rather than a reflection of his individual state. So the theory of paranormal experience as merely mirror of the psyche no doubt hold up in some instances, but it’s still a reductive theory that seems to come before the study of actual cases. Similarly, Ken Wilber, who apparently is entirely ignorant of abduction cases and ufology, dismissed the whole complex phenomenon as a product of narcissism (hmm, that could be a case of the psychic mirror theory). He though he sounded clever saying we’re so full of our selves we think extraterrestrials would be interested in us. (Naively he seemed to assume that ETs were the only possibility under consideration.) But when Pulitzer Prize winning Harvard professor of psychiatry Dr. John Mack spent years working with abduction experiencers he did not find any consistent personality profile. They were not above average in psychopathologies or character issues and that included narcissism. Ken, who looked at no cases as far as I can tell, just shot from the hip with a glib, reductive theory. Start with the cases. If you read my writings on the subject you’ll find many including at least three first hand accounts.

Hyperdimensional realities and alien abductions

Interesting article, Jonathan. You may find this documentary interesting which a friend of mine and I produced: UFOs, Aliens, and the Question of Contact

One of the most misunderstood aspects of the UFO subject is the hyperdimensional and paraphysical nature of the phenomenon, as well as the idea that humanity may not be as "special" and untouchable as we believe ourselves to be, but seems to be used as "food sources" in some ways. We explore the UFO phenomena, alien abductions, the hyperdimensional aspect of reality, the Gnostic's idea of the Archons, Castaneda's work, DMT induced Abduction experiences (Dr. Strassman's work), general UFOlogy as well as ancient history and esoteric significance relating to the "topic of all topics" (as Don Juan coined it).

“There are a thousand things which prevent a man from awakening, which keep him in the power of his dreams. In order to act consciously with the intention of awakening, it is necessary to know the nature of the forces which keep man in a state of sleep. First of all it must be realized that the sleep in which man exists is not normal but hypnotic sleep. Man is hypnotized and this hypnotic state is continually maintained and strengthened in him. One would think that there are forces for whom it is useful and profitable to keep man in a hypnotic state and prevent him from seeing the truth and understanding his position.”

Great

Thanks for sharing very good information on Alex Grey and the Mind Parasites that will be so helpful.

Sex-Bugs

Any person who has ever had an orgasm has an entity attached to their field of mind. They are not demonic or angelic as Alex suggests (his vision was clouded by his own preconceptions) but merely another form of life that is symbiotic with our species; they sustain themselves through the release of neural energy at orgasm, and in return ensure the perpetuation of the species. They are not evil, they are just parasites.. just doing what any other species does, trying to survive. The entities are capable of projecting sexual reverie into the mind of a person, prodding them to engage in sexual stimulation that results in orgasm. Each particular sex act attracts a slightly different type of sex-bug.. hetero-sex attracts the least damaging parasite in regards to mental clarity, whereas homosexual acts, masturbation, oral, etc attract far more voracious entities. People can become consumed by the entity (possession).. there are many famous serial killers and sexual criminals who mentioned hearing a voice urging them to go forth and act, and in some cases an unstoppable force intruding upon the mind, resulting in them being moved without their will. Psychology would have us believe they were schizo, sociopathic, psychotic, but many in their own testimony clearly stated that they felt they were hearing or being moved by an intelligence beyond their own.

Dubious Sex Bugs

Jonathan Zap of zaporacle.com Interesting idea, but I'm with Zezt on this one. I am very wary of such authoritative pronouncements without any evidence. Terence McKenna had a similar criticism of many people schooled in various traditions. He found that they tended to always claim to know too much. If he told them about some surreal encounter on a trip, they would say, "Oh, of course, you saw the 5th Diva of the Seventh Ray, etc." Arguably, the comment itself can be an example of a mind parasite. As I explained in my introductory essay http://www.zaporacle.com/mind-parasites-energy-parasites-and-vampires/ a cultural meme---a moment of conversation, a comment posting, etc. can function as a mind parasite. If someone read your comment and believed it, or half believed it, it would plant a seed of doubt and anxiety in their mind, a little worm twisting inside their head. You might want to take a second look at whatever or whomever was the source of this.

Zezt: In regards to

Zezt: In regards to homosexual acts, you can not possibly convince anyone with a functioning brain that homosexuality is normal sexual behaviour. Penis and Vagina were made for each other for the sole purpose of procreation.. an anus is not a sexual organ but a one way tube for excrement to be expelled. I have nothing against homosexuals at all, but you will never convince me that it is normal behaviour and neither will the politically correct psychologists of the modern era. John Zap: I am aware of the work of McKenna and whilst I do still admire some of his diatribes I fell out of love with his philosophy a long time ago. Taking the philosophic advice of a habitual cannabis and psychedelic user strikes me as being foolish. McKenna was way off base in my opinion. When 2012 comes and goes, so will his philosophy. As for my source in regards to the previous post, I trust him far more than any other source I have come across previously for one simple reason, he walked what he talked. He was also not the first to come to the conclusion mentioned previously.. every major religious system since the dawn of time has held a belief in the existence of entities and that sex is where man is most vunerable.

so will his philosophy

Terence Mckenna's "philosophy" as you call it? If you really understood it, would not make you make such off the wall comments about it.Terence was talking about language, in order to make himself understood by those who would understand the stuff he was point to, must needs speak in various perspectives at once. How many people have taken on that task? It is not that some aspects of his thought were wrong, or left open to interpretation, it is that he made the observations at all, that he dared to make them at all.It is not what will happen when 2012 arrives, it is about what we perceived about the meaning of the cycles of time, it is about awakening a more profound point of view, to the possibilities. It is not that nothing will happen, it is how we perceive the "nothing" between one cycle and another other. What would you have happen or not happen? What is it that makes you make such statements at all? ..."so will his philosophy?" you make it sound like his philosophy is some kind of ugly object found in a junk store.Oh his hippie philosophy, like some shmata he bought at the thrift store of philosophies that get tossed out the window, just as soon as some more important philosophy kicks it into the gutter, where all those 2012 weirdos belong, with the other rif raff that make philosophy while on grass and LSD.But of course you know all about phiilosophy. It is human to be vulnerable, and as Crowley said, "make it your own" (philosophy) as in magick in theory and practice. In theory Terence was very right on, in practice, he is the invisible hand handing you the DMT pipe,(symbolic or not) when 2012 arrives the hit will crossover a certain zero point. At that point you can speakaboutwhere the philosophy went. Way off base? from what base do you speakith?Oh, it's that habitual use of psychedelics, and we all know that somebody that does that is not to be trusted, because there are some other people that know better, aha!

When I wrote my novel about the late 60's and about grass and LSD trips I went on at the time, I was not so much writing about philosophy, I was just attempting to tell it like it was, but also to put the use of psychedelics into another perspective, so as to grok what the times a changing morphed into the times we are living through now, tosee the very human side of it, so as to better understand why it is so important to understand now.To blame people that took psychedelics then and now as someone you would not listen to, because , well.

We should blame those stoned apes, yup, we should blame those stoned poets, and those surrealists, and abstract artists, that Hitler said that if they did not change the way they see the world should be put away, yup!Because, because, well, those people that don't take psychedelics know better, just look at how sound their philosophies are, damn straight! they will servive 2012, for sure, for shore. And that fay fell-oss-oh fee of those Terence folks will just pass like a fart in the Chartres Cathedral.Sniff!

I wonder...

I wonder if this could be a more satisfying way of thinking about it.

It seems that there is a lot of resistance to the idea of mind parasites. I resisted it at first as well, but I think that actually the only thing I am resisting against is the implication, intended or not, that these things are somehow evil. The term parasite stirs images of things lurking, "out to get me", but I think perhaps that's simply a cultural belief that doesn't adequately describe reality.

There are plenty of physical organisms, Candida albicans for instance, which will opportunistically flourish in the body of people with imbalanced systems. The normal way of looking at this in our culture is that Candida albicans is a parasite, feeding off of poor, defenseless humans; in a word, bad, something to be eradicated. But looking at it ecologically, we see that this relationship is fairly normal, and that as Candida is always present in the human digestive tract, an overgrowth is simply an indicator that the system is out of balance.

Organic farmers worth their salt look at "pests" not as an evil to be eradicated, but as welcome indicators, bringing them the message that their soil is lacking something which the plants need.

Admittedly, when the soil culture is deficient and the farmer is unable to supply the necessary nutrients, the plants do get eaten by bugs... and none of us want to get eaten by bugs. But when the soil is deficient, the plants are weakened, and in their weakened state are susceptible. If the plants get eaten, the ecological understanding simply says "those plants weren't really cut out for that ecosystem."

Along those lines, I don't think that many on this website would say that the "soil" of our culture is sufficient to adequately nourish human life, physically or psychically, and same as with the plants, on the physical level, there are hundreds of organisms which are feeding on imbalanced humans today.  So while I admit to having a resistance to the idea that there are invisible psychic or energetic entities which may be feeding on me, the reality is it's probably likely. I am the product of a very nutrient poor culture. Most humans aren't really cut out for this ecosystem either.

But, mosquitoes have to eat, and it's only a habit to swat them away. Once, during a meditation retreat, when I was able to step in front of my automatic responses for a time, I actually found the sensations of being bitten by a mosquito rather pleasant. And it was surprisingly gratifying to watch a mosquito get her belly full and fly away satisfied, knowing she will use my blood to create and nourish her offspring. I got a distinct sense too that she was grateful for the meal. And, while I have not had enough experience to say with any validity that this is always the case, I was surprised to find that the few times that I have consciously chosen to not just let her eat, but welcomed her and gave generously, telling her that I hope the blood nourishes her, and let her have as much of my blood as she wanted, I didn't end up with an itchy swollen bug bite later. It never even turned red. I should note, however, that even with that experience, most of the time since then when I am bitten, my awareness is elsewhere and I automatically brush them away and get itchy later.

I would posit that what the disagreement boils down to is the idea that there are some things which are "good" and others which are "bad", and that we should find, attract, and maximize the "good" and avoid, minimize, banish, and kill the "bad". We could call this idea a cultural mind parasite too, the next thing to be banished, but ultimately the idea of good and evil had a cosmic purpose as well and exists outside good and evil. As Charles Eisenstein puts it, “We embark on a journey of separation in all its forms, we reach its extreme, and we come back to Union at a higher level of complexity, enriched by our journey.”

These things, whatever they do and whatever you want to call them, undoubtedly also serve a cosmic purpose, in the same way that Candida and mosquitoes do. And, as in my experience with the mosquito, our response to them has a profound effect upon how they effect us. We do have the power to choose how we respond to them, though perhaps only when we become conscious to the unconscious nature of our typical responses.

The revolution that is underway today is starting with an acceptance of what is, with a seeking to find the rightness in all things we've been calling wrong, and allowing all beings space and support to give of their gifts. And I believe that, as my experience with the mosquito hints at, when we give of ourselves consciously and graciously, even "parasites" are grateful and don't hurt us so much as we think.

Zezt and Wildthing

Wildthing: Have you actually read McKenna's book about his travels to the Amazon with his brother Dennis, and the origins of his timewave theory? The UFO, the talking mushroom voice, etc? McKenna was just another human being trying to make a living by selling a fancy albeit positive end of the world story, a story that he did believe i'm sure but just a story none the less. As for Crowley he was an idiot of the first order who died a very confused and muddled man.. he is the perfect example of what happens when you fuck with too many subtances together with sex and invoking of entities. Real philosophy comes from a change in being and in order to do that you need your brain/body functioning to be good and not a wreck like it was for Crowley. McKenna paid the price too.. Nature gets even in the end. You think it was a coincidence he died of a mushroom shaped brain tumor.. Zezt: Obviously your tiny brain is incapable of handling what I wrote, so let me state it again. I have nothing against homosexuals. I have, have had, and will continue to have friends who are homosexual. So long as they respect the boundaries like any other human does then it is not a problem. That said that doesn't mean i have to agree with their sexual choices.. just because you are friends with someone doesn't mean you have to automatically buy into what ever it is they believe in or practice! What they choose to do behind closed doors is none of my fucking business.

those who presume to pass judgement on others

I would just never presume to pass judgement, on Terence Mckenna, or Crowley, or Tim Leary, or Robert Anton Wilson, or Nietzsche, or William James, or Mark Twain or Arthur Rimbaud, or Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, or Alan Watts or Andre' Breton, or Antonin Artaud, or Lenny Bruce or any amount of people that I have had the pleasure to enjoy their creative wills. There is just too much judgement passed by people that project any amount of reason to concoct what is wrong with others, besides the fact that they rocked the boat, and went against the grain.Just as I would not blame Jesus for his followers, even though one could make a good case. Buddha, what did he do? Did he go around blaming everybody, he knew that some day some monks would have to put something in writing down, sam ting with Lao Tzu. It is just beyond silly to project on others that way, and I mean people that are real enough to go beyond mere questioning of "authority" The list is endless, great thinkers, great speakers, great visionaries, the ones we know about because they dared shake the boo boo rattle, and plunged into the mountain of works left by others to attempt to find a way through the mess that organized religions have made of this good green planet.Take Jung, who is quoted here by Mister Zap, who was an amazing visionary, but he also made some comments that have others shaking their heads.Do I throw the bath out with the baby water? People who say that Terence had a brain tumor because he was just a story teller that had a mushroom brain, well, really, can you say the word, anal? Oh I know we can put blame on Crowley because he took drugs and did sex magick, and he also climbed a Himalayan mountain and published books of poetry and many profound books on magick art.We should pretend to know that he was wrong, because we ourselves are such a shinning example.Right! It is counter productive to go on a forum like RealitySandwich and show your self righteousness, know-it-all-know-nothing remarks about the fault of others, as Nietzsche said, "human, all too human" I know that in the system of Magick, that Crowley was into, when one is performing the sex act, one is doing a ritual, and in that context, we begin to study about entities and demons, or creepy crawly and such like, but it is so easy to get the planes mixed up, take it as a metaphor, and if you are working with energies on those other planes, as do shamans, or somebody on a psychedelic, or just somebody that reads a poet like Rimbaud with a eye to the visionary. There is no safe little place, to pass judgement on a person like Terence, or a master mind like Crowley, as it assumes that you have walked a gipsy mile in their shoes. It assumes too much about the working psychology of what should never be a closed system, we should never close our minds like a trap door, and go off on tangents of name and blame, as it either shows our own lack of understanding, or our own dogmatic karma. It is one thing to look at possible flaws and to attempt to find some meaning in it, but it would presume to have found the meaning elsewhere, when you jump to conclusions about any given human experience. If you have been trained to think a certain way by the very systems that are really at bottom, the cause of our ignorance, if you have been trained in some academic field and you have to write a paper on the mistakes of other writers, then as in the mass media, you attack others on any thing that you imagine the mass mentality will jump to conclusions about, and so it goes.Really, do I have to explain to others why I enjoyed listening to Terence Mckenna, if I spent all my time looking at him and saying, oh look, he just makes all this stuff up, well I might as well spend my time listening to Fox news, or the Pope in Rome.

Well said,

I grokked

You're entitled to your opinion

Wild thing.. I pass judgement on McKenna and Crowley for one specific reason. It's not like I don't see all the millions of sleep-walking humans out there who will never amount to anything, who could only aspire to achieve creatively what McKenna or Crowley did with their life energy.. BUT, when it comes to the path of philosophy it is in everyone's interest if we help each other, which is what my criticism of McKenna and Crowley is based in. They are not helping people get closer to the Truth by encouraging a hedonistic morality of "Do as Thou Wilt". You can't honestly say that people don't interpret it that way either.. i've seen the impact their work has on people. I'm not saying their stuff isn't useful for breaking the mold, breaking away from culture and such.. but to the sincere seeker of Truth it is leading you off on a tangent, that is all. How can you hope to find answers or even peace of mind if you are openning yourself up to other planes of existence and entities.. we barely know 1% of the physical universe, to presume about the unseen dimensions is quite foolish. Even the shamans get spat out too you know, they aren't immune.

You are wrong

Sorry but you are just plain wrong on that my friend. It is not behaviour that is healthy for society or for children present who are yet to establish a sexual association.. this is why Islam goes to such extreme measures when it comes to homosexuality, to protect the health of society and the innocent. I don't agree with the killing or Islam, but I do agree that it is behaviour that is not conducive to a healthy society when practiced opennly.

You may choose to disagree with that if you wish, but history speaks for itself in regards to homosexual practices within a society, and our present society is no different.

Hey..

That's alright.. I don't care either way what you choose to believe or whether you see me as an enemy. I'm going to put my words out regardless of anyones sensitivities.. growth never comes from just circle-jerking each other mentally, it comes from confrontation. I have one question for you though, and that is why you feel hostile towards me. Are you homosexual yourself? Has what I said upset a liberal perspective you hold on sexuality? This is an honest question. You don't have to answer if you do not want to.

Ok

I know you don't believe me but I will say it again. I have nothing against homosexuals, period. It is just a life choice that I do not believe to be healthy for the individual or society, but I would never impinge upon your freedom to express that life choice if you wished. What I do strongly disagree with is the drive to educate children about homosexuality and the belief that it is healthy simply by democratic vote instead of actually doing proper studies (and for other sex acts too). The area that needs to be studied is mental not physical, so obviously this presents a problem.

I understand your resentment at what i've written.. it is natural to try to protect what is fundamental to being human (sexuality). But what can I say? The Gay lobby had the manuals changed to remove homosexuality as a mental illness not because any new evidence came to light or scientific study, but simply because they realized they could exert political pressure riding on the back of a wave of reformed "liberal sexuality" of the 60's. When you look back at history and what happened.. well, in all honesty can you really say I don't have a tenable position here? You can not disagree either in regards to homosexuality being unhealthy even purely on a physical level.. that is a non-debate!

I will not speak on this anymore as we're digressing the wall topic.

'I will not speak on this

'I will not speak on this anymore..'

Probably just as well.

LOL

I love how you can pass judgement on my character from a few posts.. yet as I have stated many times already I hold nothing against you or anyone for being homosexual. Who is the vile individual here really..

Sorry but you are typical of a person entrenched in the homosexual bandwagon who would cut down anyone who dare to question the concrete "facts" of homosexuality. Not because I have said anything that deserves such punishment but merely because I am encroaching upon what you believe to be your god given right to pleasure.I find that to be the most fascinating aspect of human behaviour and it only serves to show just how possessed of mind humans really are in regards to sex, homo or hetero.

Your final sentence.. LOL. No one is born homosexual, that is perhaps the most ludacrous assertion of the gay rights movement. As for my children, well, at least I will be able to provide a balanced environment.. two parents of the same sex is a recipe for disaster. Good luck with that one.

well, you've sure shown your true colors

"as I have stated many times already I hold nothing against you or anyone for being homosexual"

aah, the ol' "some of my best friends are ___" retort, that certainly doesn't get used these days. and then you say things like:

"As for my children, well, at least I will be able to provide a balanced environment.. two parents of the same sex is a recipe for disaster. Good luck with that one."

Prejudiced and illogical statements that clearly come from your own lack of knowledge and experience in such matters. Seems you already know all there is to know and have your mind made for you. Perhaps it is you who is possessed of mind, as you seem far too comfortable with your own skewed opinions which honestly don't jibe well with reality.

It is clear that you do harbour some deep resentment and prejudice towards homosexuals, and you freely admit it in each post, while perplexingly denying it in the same breath. You clearly feel there is something "wrong" about them, either on a purely sexual basis, or a relationship one (or both, it wouldn't surprise me) so you resort to using the same tired, petty "arguments" made by homophobes past. you also employ extremely snide, condescending tones when making your "argument" that paint you as a self-rightous bigot to others reading your comments, so you've already alienated yourself there. Mindsets like your own render you as freerange for any entities you think are hovering over you.

I challenge you to admit that you are homophobic, and stop lying to yourself and the others on this site. Then maybe you can make some progress.
