8,000 Drums

Since 2004,  Otomi Elder Sages have led global 8,000 Sacred Drum ceremonies on the Spring Equinox. The ceremonies will continue until 2012 in an effort to bring on "the beginning of the healing of Mother Earth, of all the species and the human family in order to be able to live together on the road to Sacred Peace," according to the International Indigenous University.

"First Nations, Indigenous Peoples, and Humanity" are invited to participate on March 21, 2008, by sounding your sacred drumbeat. The ceremony at the Otomi ceremonial site in Temoaya, Mexico, will take place from 10:00 AM to noon Central Standard Time, with the hope that as many global drummers as possible may participate during that time. However, drumming at any point on the 21st is welcome: "please offer your drumming, songs and prayers at any time; people from all over the world will be participating at different times, you will be in synch with others somewhere!"

8,000 Sacred Drums is a fulfillment of the Otemi Prophecy (Otemi are descendants of Mayan Olmec and Toltec). There is a video invitation for more information.
