The 411 on 2012

eclipse.jpg

The winter solstice of 2012 marks the end date of the Mayan Long Count Calendar, and with it comes a medicine bag of fear and hope. If you are a regular reader of Reality Sandwich you are probably well-versed in the various possibilities that are speculated. Rosemary Regello’s article, “Apocalypse 2012?” is a truncated synopsis of the phenomena. It touches upon almost every hypothesized scenario out there -- from galactic alignment to sea desalination. The site is regularly updated with current information and provides a robust reading list and various links for all your 2012 needs. The information provided is succinct and intriguing, but doesn’t move far beyond the materialistic.

Some of the interesting aspects of ancient prophesy and timekeeping are touched upon, but ideas regarding consciousness transformation are a bit sparse. It’s primarily a Dooms Day list; and reading it could leave you feeling ill prepared to deal with the possible external realities looming ahead. However, perhaps it is through actively engaging our fear of the unknown that we can prepare for a meaningful 2012.

Into the cave...

Pretty good article you linked to. It at least sums up all the various details involved in trying to figure out this riddle. Doesn't really compile them into any kind of theory or hypothesis. Though I suppose that isn't necessary given the details. And the fact that there is no way to know anything for sure. Thus the great mystery. :)

The thing that caught my attention the most was the Hopi stories. Daniel highlighted the Hopi tribe's cosmology and its account of the history of previous world ages in his 2012 book. But this article mentioned something new. The idea that at each turn of the cycle, a group of people were led "by God" (or some higher force/intelligence) to a "cave in a mountain" where they were protected from the massive changes on the Earth to continue on and rebuild in the new age. This is intriguing and begs further interpretation.

Is this "mountain cave" truly a cave, a physical/literal womb in the Earth? If so, this accounts for early man's cave paintings and the "caveman" concept of pre-civilization (or just after the last shift).

Or perhaps this concept relates to the psyche. Perhaps the womb into which these people go is the mind, a higher vibration of consciousness from which they emerge as the seeds of the new age.

This concept is intriguing to me. Who will these "chosen people" be this time? Will there be more than before? Will they maintain the current level of material consciousness and our acquired knowledge or will the slate be wiped clean and mankind return to a more "primitive" level of consciousness?

Perhaps those of us following these "higher questions" will somehow find the cave and live through. Perhaps this is all largely metaphor and there is no "special group" or even any relative survivors, just the ever-shifting sands of time and life on Earth, recycled by the Earth and starting a new leg of the Earth's own conscious evolution each time.

Only time will tell. But there's only 3-4 years left to wait. :)

I can

It's a fascinating time, with much to learn and explore. Now, it seems like there is a niche for everyone, and dare I say, everything. Especially now in the digital era, we are afforded that opportunity to follow our intrigues, and that which surrounds 2012 is as good as any...if not better. In response to the cave, I like the connection that Ogg makes, as it is fun to theorize that perhaps evolution may run in cycles, just like the Mayan calendar, other biological rhythms (e.g. circadian), or synthetic (i.e the Gregorian Calendar) ones. Maybe the possibility of "de-evolution" looms, closely paralleling "de-industrialization." All is YTBD. This cave concept, for me in particular, always draws up Plato's "allegory of the cave," the concept popularized in many ways, especially in the movie, The Matrix. Basically, this Hopi concept, could reflect similar first principles, insofar as the original enlightenment of the cave dwellers may not have been the original, but one of many cyclical 'enlightenments,' that have and will occur again. The Hopi idea of saving a few reminds me of Noah's ark as well, and the "cave" almost seems idiomatic of their cultural abodes, being prone to cliff-dwelling. Makes me wonder about the origin of these ideas, and lends itself to the recycling and melange of cultural concepts that seems to continually occur throughout written history.

Cultural recycling indeed.

Perhaps this is simply indicative of our cultural mythos, the collective unconscious and its many powerful archetypes, etc.

The idea of cyclical regeneration and the periodic return to our "safe zone" in the womb of creation or being. It's all very deep and intuitive and leads down several roads of thought, not just doomsday scenarios, but also the crossroads of human development and growth. There is some powerful symbolism surfacing from our primordial psyche and warrants further exploration, regardless in which arena you tend to conceptualize it.

It's clearly surfacing for a reason.

That's why I dwell on it. :)

laugh if you wish

Ms. Regello did write a well-balanced article on possibilities for the year 2012, but she completely omitted the ongoing English crop picture phenomenon, which is probably the most well-evidenced contact (however indirect) between us and benevolent extra-terrestrials at present.

Indeed, the entire crop picture phenomenon seems to be focussed on the year 2012 and what might happen then! See for example a recent review on: www.cropcircleconnector.com/anasazi/WHAT%20DO%20MODERN%20CROP%20PICTURES%20MEAN.html

If you still believe in governments and newspapers, who keep telling us that those remarkable field pictures are being made by local fakers with rope and boards, please see this recent post by Colin Andrews concerning a long history of lies and disinformation: http://colinandrews.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html

My feeling is that, if benevolent extra-terrestrials wish to warn us about the events of late 2012, out of the very goodness of their high spiritual natures, then we ought to listen to what they have to say. Laugh at me at you wish: I know the facts, and will not care. Almost all of the skeptics are simply responding to social peer pressure.

Dark Caves and Rickety Arks

All very interesting ideas. The Holos notion intrigues me, along with the ideas concerning the cave dwellers and Noah's Ark. And I can't wait to read the crop circle link. Thank you for sharing.

For me, the mysteriousness surrounding the date is the key to its power . . . and Regello’s doomsday article in particular can be used to open the imagination to the "dark side" of 2012 and its wondrous apocalyptic possibilities. Considering such possibilities forces you to confront your mortality and makes you fully aware of your powerlessness before the intricacies of the cosmos. The truth is that nothing can be done the shifting patterns of tectonic plates, but much can be done regarding the shifting patterns of our thoughts and actions. Death is our greatest teacher about life, and paying mind to it a little everyday can keep you oriented on the right path. If nothing else, the darker ideas circulating about 2012 can offer us a much needed dose of humility. It’s similar to being told you have contracted a terminal illness and only have 4 years left to live. What would do in your remaining days? What remains in yourself for you to reconcile, to improve, to learn, to love? Could a mass movement of individuals squarely and courageously entering the dark caves and confronting their shared mortality aid in a positive transformation of the collective consciousness? The paradigm shift will start with us individually . . . and if we intend to navigate the harsh waters that will bring about this change we must board the ark of our own free will.

An end to the materialist mindset

Yes, we're already seeing the start of a shift a way from the global model of production and consumption which makes us all exploited wage-slaves.

The corporations will finally see the "green" movement as more than just good public relations. eventually the "business" of the globe will be the nurturing of our planet and each other.

The one-world government (league of nations) will be somewhat privatized but instead of just the Haliburtons and Blackwaters, the board will include Apple or Ben & Jerry.

Just you watch and see.

Quetzalcoatl, Pahana and the Mayan Long Count

Two thousand years ago, just after Jesus taught in Israel, a group of twenty white-skinned bearded men arrived on the shores of modern-day Mexico. They taught the Olmecs and early Mayans all kinds of useful agriculture, building methods, astronomy or mathematics, as well as a better form of spirituality.

Their great city was Teotihuacan, meaning to the Aztecs "city of the gods". Its three great pyramids---Sun, Moon, or Feathered Serpent---could still not be built easily today.

Now in addition to all of that, Quetzal (or Pahana as he was known to the Hopis) also taught the local natives several kinds of calendar. One was the Sun-Venus calendar, later found in the Dresden Codex. The other was a strange Long Count calendar (with just 360 days per year), found on stone posts all through central America at the time.

On December 21-23, 2012 AD, their Long Count calendar will end after a current epoch or Sun lasting 5125 years (starting on August 11-13, 3114 BC, the date of a worldwide flood).

Only because Quetzal taught that Long Count calendar to the natives 2000 years ago, are we concerned about the year 2012 today! It was a "time capsule" for the future, so to speak.

So who were Quetzalcoatl and his twenty or so skilled companions. Did they come from northern Europe as Vikings? If so, how did they know so much advanced mathematics and astronomy, far beyond the local culture of Europe until fairly recently? Or could they have come from much further away, say from a distant star? Something modern historians may have forgotten, especially since Spanish priests burned all but four major Mayan manuscripts after Cortez's invasion in 1519?

By legend, Quetzal always said that he would return in the distant future, perhaps when his Long Count calendar ends in 2012. The Hopis likewise are waiting for a return of Pahana their "lost white brother". So we should learn more about these interesting subjects soon.

I find it very interesting, nevertheless, that Daniel had a psychic contact with the "avatar Quetzalcoatl" in Brazil 2003, while many long-forgotten Mayan calendars or "jester's hats" appear in modern crop pictures today: see www.cropcircleconnector.com/2008/aveburymanor/aveburymanor2008a.html To not take such amazing events seriously would now seem foolish in the extreme.

The cover of Daniel's 2012 book: what does it mean?

Dear Don, oannes, cjmoore and others:

I am going to leave you with a nice puzzle to solve, to help transform your consciousness.

It is very simple: what does that spiral crop picture on the cover of Daniel's "2012 Return of Quetzalcoatl" book signify?

It appeared in broad daylight one afternoon in July 1996 next to Stonehenge.

The answer is given in CCC archives, if you happen to be a member: www.cropcircle.tv/archives/1996/The%20Stonehenge%20code.html

No, it is not a Julia set fractal, as many people first claimed. You have to look a little deeper into our past, and its geographic promixity to an ancient stone observatory.

By working through the answer for yourselves, your way of thinking will be transformed. If you so choose, with less than four years left now until December 2012.

Hi, I was just curious about what you thought of this article by Freddy Silva, a 'leading expert' on crop circles -

'From their peak in 1999, genuine crop circles have slowly decreased in number each successive season. This 2008 season has been exceptional, for out of 133 world reports, the evidence shows that only two appear to be genuine, leading to an assumption that crop circles have reached a dormant phase'

reply to Ada

Dear Ada,

Freddy Silva's estimate for paranormal authenticity in 2008 as "only 2 out of 133" has not been taken seriously by any of the hundred or so active researchers in the field.

Most of us believe on the basis of direct forensic evidence (or other) that 80-90% of the new complex pictures in England (or Germany/Italy) last summer were authentic.

Indeed, most showed very advanced science relating to solar or lunar eclipses that no faker would know: see a summary on www.cropcircleconnector.com/2008/080808/0101010.html

The amazing "Emerald Tablet" crop picture from East Field on August 25, 2008 was also completely authentic, which really says something concerning their spiritual intent: see www.cropcircleconnector.com/2008/eastfield4/eastfield2008d.html

For something really amazing, see the video taken by Andy Fowlds over Westwoods in mid-August: www.medwaycropcircle.co.uk/westwood2008bols.htm

The Westwoods crop picture itself is an ancient symbol for Venus/Quetzalcoatl.

Simplicity

Very interesting points, Don. I too love winding my mind around strange ideas and possible scenarios regarding our species' future. And even though I do believe that higher consciousness is something that has to be earned through effort and thought, every now and then, I purposefully seek to integrate Zen-like teachings/meditations into my mind's diet.

Your post reminded me of a quote by Rainer Maria Rilke:

Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves like locked rooms or like books that are written in a foreign tongue.

Do not seek the answers . . . live the questions.

Inner versus outer space

Dear Don, Michael and others,

No one would doubt the need for further inner enlightenment among humans. I was just reading "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle that gives an excellent, modern exposition of that theme, in terms of original teachings from the past whether by Buddha, Lao Tsu, or Jesus.

But at the same time, we seem to be caught up in the midst of some very important historical events as a prelude to end of the Fifth Mayan Sun in late 2012, and birth of the Sixth Mayan Sun in early 2013. Indeed, our local human race on Earth seems to be entering some kind of crisis for its short-term survival, whether environmental or other.

I presume that you know about the famous Crabwood message to us in ASCII-English from August 2002? See www.cropcircleconnector.com/anasazi/time2007n.html or www.cropcircleconnector.com/anasazi/time2007o.html

"Much pain but still time". That was back in 2002! How much time do we have left? Four years until 2012? Or perhaps forty years until 2050? No more than that surely, on our current unmodified timeline.

Crabwood appeared on the fiftieth anniversary of when a malign alien "grey" race overflew Washington DC in late July of 1952, and several further codes were added subtly to its 1368-bit message to that effect.

The 2002 Crabwood crop picture essentially capsulized a disagreement which Pinchbeck had with Streiber on the radio last year: one (P.) favors Quetzal, while the other (S.) favors the greys. Its primary purpose was to warn us about the greys, and to confirm their unpleasant intervention in our history.

Given these external factors, I believe that simple enlightenment from inner space will not be enough! We have to pay attention to two or more sets of visitors from outer space as well. This should all become evident soon.

Steiber's argument that a "massive human die-off is inevitable" plays right into their hands. But see Daniel's latest essay, about how we can prevent such a die-off and change our current timeline by "good intent". Such was also the message from those crop artists who made Crabwood in 2002: "Believe: there is good out there." In other words, we can change our near-future history through directed timeline intervention, if you wish to hear the same thing in scientific language. But lots of us will have to listen.
