2012 on the Air

am-nw-dave-and-helen.jpg

In this recent "AM Northwest" morning news episode from Portland, Oregon, popular news anchors take a refreshingly serious approach talking with Daniel Pinchbeck about 2012 and the RS anthology.

With the upcoming release of the blockbuster disaster film 2012, we are getting a first glimpse at the 2012 hype. Some people will want 2012 to be about the apocalypse, stock piling batteries, and fear-based hoopla, while others will want to talk seriously about making better decisions and changing the world.  It's nice to see a mainstream outlet at least provide the space to present some of the more positive possibilities for the end date of the Mayan calendar.

Audience?

I wonder if someone could explain to me what kind of audience this piece would reach in the US? It can be hard for those of us outside of the US to get a handle on the multiple networks and their coverage. Here in the UK we have four (sometimes five) mainstream nationwide channels, and not much else.

The reason I ask is that I think Daniel P does a great job at raising to consciousness a number of issues in a limited time - so, yeah what sort of audience will have seen this?

Surreal...

Does anyone else find it somewhat funny, ironic and/or profound that Daniel is speaking so deeply and thoughtfully on this lighthearted local morning news program? I am having flashbacks of the "morning latte" skits that Will Ferrell and Cheri Oteri used to do on SNL, especially when the hosts keep trying to reign Daniel back down to the lowest common denominator with lines like "that will make a great movie". Kudos to Daniel- you handled that beautifully!

reading

Lloyd-Evans, this is from a local morning news broadcast here in Portland, a metro area of about 1.5 million people. I have no idea how many people actually watch the show. In the thousands, I would guess. Tal.Leeds, I agree, there is some cognitive dissonance seeing Pinchbeck speaking so thoughtfully and local TV hacks trying to stick to their cue cards. I was at the reading at Powell's and it was packed. Easily 150+ people. The reading was fun and there was lively, intelligent Q+A discussion afterwards.

Cool

Thanks ngejung.

Nicely done

"Maybe this is already a good movie"

YES!

Cue cards?

I wonder why all the mainstream news harps on the "remember y2k" and "doomsday" memes. Maybe they're just directing people towards fear and away from the real change of consciousness and connectivity that we're talking about and seeing. I think what defines this community is partly that we're not collecting batteries and hoarding, but really working towards true community and sustainability.

Surreal indeed...

How satisfying to imagine all the Portlanders chewing on this reality breakfast sandwich before heading off to work... (I love the "Daniel Pinchbeck: Doomsday Expert" header, too funny!)

Tip of my hat to the morning news for going anywhere near there in the first place, and nice work Daniel!

Oh Portland...

I agree with ST profoundly, that the fact that this little morning news show even dared to venture into this realm is worth a tip of the hat.

As a born-and-raised Portlander, I can say that at least I myself have never watched this show, and that I don't know many people who would... But hey, isnt that what Youtube is here for?

Wish I was back home for the Powells reading and book signing.

On behalf of Portland, Oregon, I apologize for the lack of cognitive depth, as well as dismissive sentiments displayed by the news anchors.

Adam, I spoke with you after

Adam, I spoke with you after the Reality Sandwich/Evolver Atlanta Event. Just wanted to say that your stories were great to experience. Thank you for coming. I look forward to reading your articles in the Toward 2012 Anthology!

longing for the NW right now...

Missed the Powells event cause i now live on the otherside of the planet (if you're ever in Greece...) so thanks for posting the link!! Can't believe what blockheads the talk show hosts are... trying so hard to propagate fear, whether they are conscious of it or not. In agreement with you all, Daniel gracefully dodged the cannonballs and still left us with a positive feeling. Man, it sure looked painful though. Bravo on getting an interview with such a mainstream audience!!! At the very least he stirred one or two people out of slumber...

And apparently we only need 8,000... I just finished listening to some videos from theduderinok's YouTube channel (which I love AND recommend) particularly the series featuring Coast to Coast AM's interview with author Gregg Braden about his studies dealing with the physical effects of conscious intent. Great stuff!! He concludes, based on years of studies, that the minimum amount of people needed in group prayer for physical effects to be recorded is the square root of one percent of any given population. So if the global population is about 6 billion, then the square root of one percent is roughly 8,000. But, obviously those people can't just be anyone with good intentions, or it would have happened already... but, I find it very positive that he suggests it only takes a few to jump start a collective conscious snowball. In that case, I'm ready! And a big thanks to Daniel, for always reminding us how crucial positive thinking is no matter how gloomy the company is.

In the vein of RAW

similar to what RAW discusses at the end of CT3L my life after death, i've wondered if in 2012 we'll just crawl out of the higher dimensional "TV screen". Break out of the characters we've been forced to play, the movie ends but true life begins.

The Hand Bow Down to the HAND!

Both really good and very funny all at the same time. I was at the balitmore event for this book tour. Its great to know there are like minds in this world. And as somebody already wrote, that was pure SNL... When confronted with the truth, the fool always laughs.

I thought the interview was

I thought the interview was very good, and covered a lot of ground in a short time. But I didn't quite understand what he meant by the Incan elders saying 'we'll miss our white brother'? Do they mean the white people will all drop down dead, or is this a white brother from the sky - I just didn't understand..

wrong date

Also I noticed they got the date wrong.. 'Is December 12, 2012 really the end of the world' http://www.katu.com/amnw/segments/39578362.html

I am so excited, I just can't hide it.

So, I was there too at the Portland event, waited all month to go. I had another really important prayer group that night, but i am glad i made it out. It was so refreshing to see D.P. in the flesh. I literally found his REality 2.0 recording at the library by accidant and then within hours after finnishing it was talking to a friend who loant me 2012, then found him online and went to his talk. So refreshing to hear about someone in my generation bringing it all together, i don't want to put him on a pedastol or anything, but man, thank goodness for that man.

hey Adam, it's Adam :)

Hey man, it's Adam W from Evolver Atlanta - just wanted to say what an amazing job you did at our event last weekend. The crowd loved you, and all the Evolver members did too. Was truly an honor and a pleasure to meet you. Know that you are ALWAYS welcome to come visit and get in on our events...Cheers and Blessings to you!
