2012 Hits Hollywood
In a promotional viral video blog for Sony Pictures' new fictional film about 2012, directed by Roland Emmerich, Woody Harrelson plays the character Charlie Frost, giving dire prognostications about our impending doom. In these parody videos hosted at ThisIsTheEnd.com, Harrelson presents some of the ideas around 2012 in a distinctly “crackpot” and satirical style, with the punchline being the idea that everyone will die in 2012 so we better live it up while there’s still time.
In typical Hollywood fashion, there isn't much substantive engagement with the speculative ideas and theories around 2012, just a media-bite regurgitation of 2012 as a meme of death and destruction. If you've seen Emmerich's previous films Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow, you can probably imagine what this 2012 movie is going to be like. When considering all the hype around big explosions, tidal waves, environmental catastrophes, and global disaster scenarios, it seems that the movie industry (and corporate media in general) is suffering from a fundamental lack of imagination.

Something Looks Familiar
As RS contributor Adam Elenbaas noted in an email to me, with the quirky animation, these vids seem very similar to the Post Modern Times shorts. I guess imitation is the greatest flattery, even if it's comes in the form of parody.

I would highly recommend checking out the IHC website, which is coincidentally owned by Sony Pictures who is releasing "2012" later this year ... the whole scheme is pretty strange if you ask me.
Fear not
The IHC thing is just a marketing scam.
An excerpt from the 2012 movie page on wikipedia has this to say:
"On November 12, 2008, the studio released the first teaser trailer for 2012 that showed a tsunami coming over the Himalayas and interlaced a message about the world's governments not preparing its population for the end of the world. The trailer ended with a message to viewers to "find out the truth" by searching on Google for "2012". The Guardian criticized the marketing approach as "deeply flawed" since the film was not mentioned among the first few search engine results.[15] The studio also launched a viral marketing website published by the fictional organization Institute for Human Continuity where visitors could register for a lottery number to be part of a small population that would be rescued from global destruction.[16]"
Typical
Now all the moviegoing sheeple be saying "2012? Oh yeah, I saw that movie. It was ok, I guess. The part where they had to jump a bus off a bridge was pretty cool." And from then on, the most pertinent concept of the day will be lost forever to the majority of people, tied to some stupid, close-minded, and insulting movie that makes it all into a joke.
The idea is pretty disgusting, but nothing less could be expected. The pattern of consumer media demolishing the value of relevant ideals continues. On the bright side, this may serve as a kind of filter to sort out people who actually think for themselves on the subject, rather than those who are content to sit on their asses and let a big-budget movie tell them how it is.
Psi-ops (again)
http://www.instituteforhumancontinuity.org/
Looks like a government psi-op disguised as a movie trailer. One wonders nowadays if there is much difference between Hollywood and psi-ops. Someone has a lot of money to spend to rubbish 2012 as a concept.

Life cannot be killed how much they try to test it's strenght.
ther are always antidote's...
Story of the RED ANT.. Raid pestiside was sprayed on a ant hill, residing in a fish tank, so you were able to see the rout in a few areas. The ants died on the surface and the fumes ligered in the tank. Ants in the surface tunnels were also killed. The Queen Ant way balow spewning her eggs, sensed alarmed and send out a signal of alarm. The ant soldiers went to the surface and died, they kept dragging an dead infected ant down below however a few inches the solder also dies, and this process went on until the poisoned ant reached the Queen Ant. There she ingested it, thus the next atch of eggs were red and the birth of red ants. Smaller, faster and more vicious.
Same with Mosquitos, the more we sprayed the smaller they got, now you cannot see them they are smaller then the noseeam, yet the bites are small red painful bites, severe inching. Tobacco in ponds takes care of the mosquito larva. They also do not like the smell of vitamin b's... The educated public is falling behind.

Actors are whores. If Hitler was here today and was making a big budget pro-Nazi Infomercial he'd have his pick of the Hollywood so called 'A' list.

2012 ... and the Mass Consciouness Marketplace
Another mass market ... another way to exploit mass consciousness.
One has to admit, that this is not just Sony ... all over I have seen similar viewpoints, from all kinds of non-corporate people, although on a relativly limited scale ...
Like Daniels post the other day ... how much confusion there was from hearing about so much... how much response.came.
How is "big moment" confusion really separate from "little moment" confusion.
Conspiracy is nothing but feeding the illusion of the people back to themselves.
Like the stand-up comic humor of today ... all 'nothing but a mirror of our inconsistencies among one another
... how to find fault ... how to judge.
Here on Reality Sandwich the goal seems to be to transcend such innuendo by becoming a community unto ourselves.
Nothing like remaining tight with ones brothers and sisters ... so that ones heirloom wisdom survives the synthetic drama going on outside oneself.
If not a one of us knew about any of this ... could we still not be able just look up at the sky and wonder .. for it's own sake.
There has never been a moment when somethings weren't in alignment ... while other things were ...
We are all already part of what could ever happen.
There has never been anyone who has but their own version of sensibility.
The moment at hand now ... will be the moment at hand then
Just thought I'd repeat this.

2012 The Movie as a Catalyst to Real World Change
regardless of its story line or intentions this movie may be serving a function that those involved are completely unaware of. it could be entering into global consciouness, just the idea of 2012 it self, which in turn will breed curiosity (and some confusion). this curiosity will at the very minimum lead to some geniune inquiry, hence leading into a larger and more rational look into the possibilities of this time period. if 2012 does happen (which for me personally seems more and more likely every day) then this movie played a role be it small or large.
so lets relax a little bit before we start condemning it.
Synchronicity Tidal Wave
I agree with geraldtp.
I say the real tidal wave that is and will be wiping us out(tehe) is synchronicity!
:)
Sounds more like...
... a silly retread of Christian millenialism than, say, Terence McKenna's take on 2012.
Jocko, what've you got against whores? They provide an upfront service. But you might be right about Hitler and the A list, for the most part. Don't look to Hollywood for truth. Not that it doesn't occasionally make a good movie in spite of itself.
Now for some paranoid conspiracy theory. Has it occurred to anyone else that global corporatism might already be mulling some kind kind of cooptation of 2012? Only if it gets enough traction, perhaps. But they've probably thought about it.
Yeah, you're right Jeff
After posting that I realized they've probably been tracking Quetzalcoatl & Co. since about 1991 if not sooner. And your take on Hollywood is right in the main. I'm sure there are lots of real artists working in the film biz - they've gotta work somewhere - but they all have to chase the same corporate buck and as a rule it isn't handed out to the truth-tellers. It's basically a profit-making machine with auxiliary propaganda functions which can easily be made primary, as during WWII. The latest James Bond flick even had a scene apparently designed to make us think getting implanted with an RFID chip is pretty cool.
I like your idea of indie fests. The problem with big commercial films is they cost too much to make and distribute. Creativity that functions at a grassroots and individual level allows far more room for idiosyncratic artistic freedom. What's the way to fight the dominant corporate culture? Make Art! said Terence McKenna. Maybe your proposal for leaflets could be reconceived as some kind of poetic terrorism a la Hakim Bey. Funky holographic tarot cards distributed free when viewed under certain lighting conditions reveal opium poppies or marijuana leaves or weird occult images that worry the feds. That sorta thing.
