Wife Swap 2012

Erin Shaw

Wife Swap, the show that involves two families switching mothers to see how others live, is looking for outgoing families who are “actively preparing for December 21st, 2012.” Participants spend part of the week observing how the host family lives; the guest mother then introduces rules and activities that are important to her family. With the various beliefs people have about 2012, preparation could mean anything from stocking the fallout shelter and learning to live without electricity to meditating together and growing food. It will be interesting to see how primetime reality TV approaches 2012 and what impressions the families leave on each other as they clash or cooperate.

And if for some reason you're interested in giving this a go, you can contact "Wife Swap" casting producer, Danielle, through her MySpace profile.

interesting...

hey Erin...saw in the local paper yesterday that a film is being shot here called "2012"...seeing your post prompted a quick imdb search...looks like there's a fair bit of discussion going on in their message boards...interesting to see the topic (and all its issues and ramifications) spread out like this into more mainstream awareness...wider and wider as we approach...

2012, the movie(s)

I did a little write-up of all the 2012 Hollywood projects in the works... Definitely going to be a topic of discussion in a big way quite soon...

Thoughts

What a great idea, will be interesting to watch how the different walks of life prepare for 2012 and their thoughts/opinions on it.

What can we do?

I've been interested in the 2012 meme for a few years now... certainly not as long as many others, but still. I think I first heard mention of it when I was in high school. A friend of mine said something along the lines of: "Expect everything to change in 2012." He was always very cryptic and somewhat prophetic- a rather interesting cat to say the least- so I wouldn't be surprised if he showed up on my doorstep in the months leading up to that date telling me we have to go to Colorado or something. It probably wasn't until 10 years later that it re-appeared into my consciousness, seemingly by accident (though I'm pretty sure there are no accidents...)

But I digress... Already I find myself coming to the defense of the 12/21/12 whenever it's brought up, because what most people think about it is the typical "Oh, just another silly unsubstantiated end-of-the-world-hysteria." I try and explain the best I can (and I'm far from being scholarly on it) how the Mayan Calendar works and what researchers such as John Major Jenkins believes it means for us. I also point to other theories that involve that date, such as McKenna's Timewave Zero. By the time I'm done talking I usually notice that hazed-over look in the person's eye and realize I lost them not long after I started talking, and question if I hadn't just been pontificating... Regardless, with all of this Hollywood tripe coming out, (and Michael Bay and Rolland Emmerich are pretty much the masters of Hollywood tripe) for those of us who have spent time seriously (or casually) researching and trying to make sense of the 2012 meme, it's only going to become harder to get anyone to understand that there's more to it then just another end-of-the-world-craze. So what do/can we do? Anything?

Am I taking this too personally?

No, you're not taking this too personally...

It's frustrating when others write off one's ideas as mere fantasy, when they pigeon-hole you into "one of those gullible hippies"  even though you have evidence to support your case.  Just look for the occasional gleam of interest that shows people really do want to know more, but are more afraid of looking silly than they are curious.  Keep talking and somebody is bound to listen, although you may be fairly alienated by the end of it.  The more people are aware, the greater the change.

Your little anecdote about your high school friend reminded me of someone similar, who ironically is from Colorado.  He had never even heard of the Mayan prophecies, or McKenna, or the Hopi prophecies, or anything having to do with 2012, yet he had visions, intense ones, about the significance of that year, about all the changes that were coming, and he would be perfectly sober.  But I suppose he had been awake for several days when he had them, which would render him insane according to current western psychological standards.   He was blown away (and scared a little shitless) once I told him of the Mayan prophecies.

Just thought I'd share...

No way

You're not taking it too personally at all. It's important to point out how 2012 and everything linked to end-times is covered in the media, even frivolous stuff like WifeSwap. For me it's part of media literacy, and I've barely scratched the surface of what 2012 means. Anyway, I hope it becomes less of a gimmick in time. It's easy to undercut ideas when there are about 4 years to spare, but hopefully we're on our way to something more "fair and balanced."

Dec. 22, 2012

Heh, I think it may become less of a gimmick come Dec 22, 2012. That's what gets to me, though. It enters the mainstream consciousness filtered through mainstream media, and gets reduced to being just a "gimmick." People don't know there's more to it then just the hype they use to sell movie tickets or get prime time raitings.

Sure, a few people may have caught Daniel Pinchbeck on The Colbert Report or on that History Channel documentary on the Mayan Calendar... and I guess that's a good sign, despite the History Channel's documentary focusing largely on the Doomsdayaspect of it... (which was a shame...)

Wouldn't it be nice to somehow get something like the Postmodern Times animated shorts into the mainstream consciousness? A bit of a balance to the doomsay-hype is all I'm saying....

hunh...I wonder if they're looking for a young, 2012-hipster consultant- that would be a great side job for me. . .

. . .

I often find myself amidst the hills of hollywood trying my hand at explaining to celebrities the many myths of human existence. . .but truly, there is a distinct lack of awareness in hollywood concerning certain things in the 'upper realms'. Were very 'lower chakra based' around Los Angeles you could say.

. . .

The thing is that many people are genuinely busy here and very hung up on their work, especially in entertainment- many people I meet outside of the tribal culture want to know more about this stuff but don't know how. . .or why sometimes.

. . .

Its interesting to hear more about the feature films, I knew about Michael Bay and Emmerich Rolland working on 2012 but had no idea it was 2 different films! thats outrageous, but hey, they'll make twice the profit, the publics going to Love this stuff!

. . .

I only pray that people will continue to be open to receiving many possible outcomes. Whenever I talk to people about it I get really excited because its- as I have imagined -our passage into the light, if only we come together to conceive it.

Heres a great article about http://www.moveon.org

They are actively working and succeeding at bringing millions together under the same ideas and often agreements, they recently trumped Fox news for their racist battery of the Obama family and are campaigning for Hope across the nation.

2012 Wife Swap

Some weeks ago I got a message in my mailbox asking me if I would like to go on this dumb show, I decided that that people whom ignore 2012 are too weird to spend time living with and gave it a miss.
