A Fair and Balanced Look at 2012

Adam Elenbaas

Over a thousand people turned out to the 2012 Conference in Hollywood, CA to hear John Major Jenkins, Sharron Rose, Daniel Pinchbeck and others speak about the evolution of planetary consciousness.

The event was so widely talked about that Fox News showed up to do a story. Perhaps surprisingly, the popular network covered the event with optimism and enthusiasm, saying, "The event is not focusing on the apocalypse, but on the need for positive change."

News casters seem to think they know it all and laugh at everything. They are so judgemental. I just think its because they are so indoctrinated. Its people like them that will hinder the change of this current reality into a newer and better one. Those are the people that won't be able to progress in their own minds. Hopefully 2012 will have some adverse effects on them and they will be able to mindshift their way of thinking.

This is interesting

as I have previously been led to believe that the US media in particular is bereft of any progressive debate and certainly, as you say Helexia, seems to ridcule it if it does come up. We in the UK are somewhat luckier in that our media at least attempts to widen debates on certain issues (an example of the contrast can be seen in this documentary: http://www.mediaed.org/videos/MediaRaceAndRepresentation/PeacePropaganda) although there is still a lot of stuff that just doesn't get talked about.

That said there has been a renewed interest in fringe topics in mainstream media here too recently. There was a documentary about the much lampooned conspiracy theorist David Icke entitled 'David Icke: Was he right?' on our channel 5 fairly recently and only a few days ago Andy Thomas of a british organisation that holds talks and symposiums on fringe debates and crop circles was invited to speak on prime time programme 'The one show' on our channel 1 about conspiracy theories. Unfortunately I missed it so cannot comment on the final output. However, only last night, the regular news review and current affairs show Newsnight (something of a british institution) dedicated an entire show under the title 'Unsustainable world' sparked of course by the recent focus on the food crisis. Topics covered were wide ranging and surprisingly even handed and infused with the sense of urgency usually only reserved for matters that under any kind of scrutiny usually reveal themselves to be rather pointless disputations of semantics, obscuring the real issues at hand.

The problem of course with these kinds of issues popping up in the mainstream of course is that because of our channel change, attention/focus stunted, throwaway culture is no better exemplified than in the mass media, these issues, like many others, are quickly and easily forgotten and the debates remain relatively shallow and show no sign of working towards resolution. For now anyway...!

Still, when all's said and done I think these are fairly positive signals of what may be to come.

I'm actually Canadian but I

I'm actually Canadian but I live in the UK at the moment, I find David Icke interesting! I'm going to one of his semenars this May to hear him speak so I can see him live and get a better understanding of his writings and such. I also find that most people in the UK think he's nuts. I ask anyone about him and they say "Oh that nut who thinks he's god?" And to be honest I don't think he believes that he is or maybe people just misinterpreted what he said once. I still think he's being quite ridiculed in the mainstream media when I wish he wasn't. He has some good ideas people just don't see it.

Yeah i agree

I am yet to read his books but know some friends that have copies that i will borrow in the future for certain. I am intrigued to understand his theories of the reptilian bloodline and shapeshifting as its the most outlandish of his otherwise very sober and often not all that controversial thought (these days anyway). Despite that fact, most people latch onto this and, as you say, misinterpret other things he has said in order to dismiss him out of hand.

A lot of people i know, some of them close friends, almost all of them intelligent and questioning beings, have this same attitude to icke and others. Its a type of cynicism that runs very deep i believe. Its unfortunate and ironic because it amounts to close-mindedness in individuals who strongly believe themselves to be otherwise. It seems that our habit of scoffing at ideas continues, despite the lessons of the past that teach, 'maybe the "truth" isn't the final "truth" we could know.'

I'd be interested in hearing what his talks are like, so you'll have to fill me in! Don't know where you are in the UK but there are some interesting talks put on near to me (east sussex, nr brighton) by the Andy Thomas chap i mentioned. The org. is called changing times and they have a variety of speakers all on salient subjects :-)

When I go to Icke's seminar

When I go to Icke's seminar I'm going to try and video tape it if I can. So I can replay it incase I miss something important. Which I think is a good idea. I live in Essex atm...I'm told its one of the worst county's in England...LOL Its ok I don't mind it though but I never hear of any interesting talks going on in the area. All I see is mainstream media stuff that I'm not interested in. =(

cool

sounds like a good idea! I got no idea if essex has anything good i'm afraid! I don't know if its the worst county either! It has a bit of a reputation for chavs and hoodys and easy girls! Lol! I'm sure there are exceptions to the stereotype though, there usually are! You're quite near London though, so theres probably cool stuff going on there...

No you're right about the

No you're right about the sterotype, there are chavs and hoodies and easy "nasty" girls here. I've been here for almost 2 years and I don't have any girl friends yet...mainly because I don't see eye to eye with them. They seem to occupied with menial things that I just don't see as being interesting or important in my day to day life. And I would hate to associate myself with that type of mindset. Not to be horrible or anything but most of them are just dumb...or I should have said in a nicer way that they're just blissfully ignorant. I usually go to London to catch all the cool stuff, there isn't much here for that. LOL

Ha ha!

Yeah, its kinda hard to be nice about chavs sometimes! There are a lot in my little hometown and they often make things...interesting! I'm currently working to try and put together a kinda community centre/venue/veggie cafe there and a lot of the clientele is bound to be chavs, so should keep us all on our toes i reckon!

Lolz!

Ha! But what if I'm really really sneaky like a ninja?! And I can Ninja video tape the show!

I like the little portmanteu of panarchy

its true! Even anarchy must go! But words are simply arbitrary signifiers that fall short of the mark. All language is an abstraction and ultimately engenders sedimented idealogies. But I guess thats why I personally enjoy the ideals contextualised under anarchy because it has its own personal meaning for me as does anything for anyone else! Living in a way in which one can survive in the material realm but at the same time redressing your rituals and habits as regularly as possible.

equal

absurd is a word, all positions are equally absurd to the word.

on your mark, go!!!

2012 is a huge number on a billboard somewhere in the 21 century...

I don't want anarchy

I don't want anarchy either...I just want people to be good and be happy but NOO!!! that just isnt possible! >.<

Well...

anarchy is a concept that has grown and evolved over the years but has always essentially been about emancipation, even from thoughts on what that is itself. It has an interesting history and is all too often written off because of the negative connotations that have surrounded the word itself. It always implies chaos and disorder and conditions that lack harmony. Nothing could be further from the truth! If that were so, we'd be living in an anarchic paradise right now! An = without arkos = ruler. No gods. No masters. So....one has to look within and to each other.

Seriously www.crimethinc.com. They are a self dubbed ex-workers collective and have written three books. The first is called 'days of war, nights of love' and totally changed my life. The new one's just come out and I am yet to read, but apparently tackles the fundamentals of applying uninhibited ideals to the real world :-)
