Graphic Imperialism

zinn.jpg

In this time of awakening and questioning, many Americans are curious about their own truth as a country and culture. Howard Zinn’s new graphic novel, A People’s History of the American Empire, illustrated by Mike Konopacki, delves deeply into the past and present of American Imperialism to uncover the truth of this country’s checkered history. A video, narrated by Viggo Mortensen, uses Zinn’s voice and the art in the graphic novel to give a taste of what the book offers.

In Zinn’s essay, What the Classroom Didn't Teach Me About the American Empire”, he discusses the moments that opened his eyes to what he considers, American imperialism. The essay questions the motives of manifest destiny and the intent and purpose of the Louisiana Purchase.
